They do have update UIs and are easily updated. Can you not spatially compare my posts to yours and realize I'm going in order with your claims?

 

An ASIC built by Intel is not a point of failure, and the little chips added to DP 1.2a to handle the AS protocol are also points of failure, so your point is moot either way.

Your responses dont match up. 

 

How could you update the monitor? The only way is for them to have a wifi card or have a USB interface. There would have to be a coded display manager for your specific display. Your computer cannot send data through HDMI or DP like that. The infrastructure for updating monitors like this just is not there.  

 

again, if it is so simple, where is it?

The announcement or the interface? Nvidia will announce it when it intends to launch HDR monitors. The partnership does start a year or two in advance after all. The interface? Already built into most monitors, but since all the current monitors aren't HDR-compliant at the panel level, you couldn't update them anyway, and that's true for both FS and GS monitors.

In which case, given that there are no HDR G-Sync monitors at the moment (although that could change in a few days), the ability or inability to update a G-Sync module at home is neither here nor there because the monitor cannot magically add HDR support to the actual panel, and all HDR G-Sync monitors would ship with an HDR capable G-Sync module anyway.

 

Although Asus did require people send in their G-Sync PG279Q monitors for the firmware update to rectify display issues when connected to an nVidia graphics card.

This made me laugh. You're assuming NVIDIA magically has tech ready to make G-sync work with HDR that works similarly to what AMD is doing here.

To update a monitor you would need to download the firmware on a USB drive and insert it into the monitor and then have the monitor somehow be able to recognize that that file in the USB is a firmware it cant use, and then somehow would have to update itself. 

 

Sorry, but its not as simple as clicking "update" like it would be in the case of AMD here. 

My awful monitor has this feature. Every single TV in my house since 2010 has a firmware only USB port and guides that teach people how to update firmwares. It really is as simple as formatting a fat32 USB, dragging a file, plugging a flash drive in, and hitting a button, lol.

 

EDIT: I can take pictures if need be.

 

EDIT 2: I did it, but please don't judge my dirty TV. It's in the basement, and seldom gets any love.

We are the PC gaming community, if none of us knew how to upgrade firmware via flash drives, we would be a disappointment to our kinds. That being said, I am sure that monitor manufacturers would offer alternative solutions (which wouldn't be elegant, as one of you said before, but a solution nonetheless).

AMD moves some picture processing to before the VRR component in the display pipeline. Zmuel says this has nothing to do with freesync. People tell him he is wrong. Zmeul insists other people are wrong, not him. People say adding the number "2" to a name to denote a second generation is 'confusing'.

 

5 pages later, somebody says taht nVidia doesn't have this and can't update it easily. patrick says they can update the FPGA easily. Updating the G-Sync module in non-HDR monitors to support HDR would have fuck all effect because the panel can't do HDR anyway (and AFAIK the existing G-Sync monitors only support DP 1.3 (although you probably could update that support via a firmware update, which some people say can't be done, some say is hard, and patrick says it's easy and is probably totally dependent on the monitor in front of the end user)).

I said they can use the same FPGA module but that of course you need an HDR panel. My claim was that it would not cost anything more than the original GSync, and it has no reason to.
