GSYNC also makes SLI feel like a single card. Made the investment officially worth it for me.

FreeSync is software not hardware like GSYNC. Means it only works at certain fps, and helps with tearing and not much else. FreeSync is great for what it is, and GSYNC is way overpriced. But dumb asses like me do pay the premium for a reason.

Very convenient that the RX 480 beating the 390x after a few months is viewed as driver improvement, but if the 1060 all of a sudden started beating the 980 it would be because Nvidia gimped the 980.

Hmmm. Convenient, or troubling?

Though it's not because the 390X stopped working properly and didn't receive optimizations, it's because the 480 just performs better now. It was reviewed on new drivers and compared to the 1060, got around 7-8% of performance on average since launch.

The pricing has increased similar to the resolution the cards are aimed at has increased.

I bought an MSI R9 6970 Lightning (as you may know, the lightning cards always carry a premium) for just ~350 euro.

This card was aimed at 1080p gaming and did awesome at the time.

Then I had an Asus GTX 770, another 1080p card at it's release (but now a mid range card) bought for ~320 if I remember right.

So at this point for the same price you'd get a mid range card.

Same thing happened with the 970.

This time around, the 1070 costs far above that but I believe there's a reason.

Like any other business, Nvidia's goal is to make money.
AMD decided to not compete in the high end market this time around.

So if Nvidia is the only side that can provide full on 1440p/4k single gpu cards then why not charge more for it?
If Vega will be as good as predicted, you can expect Nvidia to start cutting prices very sharply to stay competitive.

No one will pay $700-800 for a gpu that can be matched (or close to it) from AMD for $500.

At the end of the day, fanboys will be fanboys. But you'll still see that most people will go for Nvidia if they actually want proper 4k gaming because at the moment AMD simply can't provide that.

Nvidia grabbed the market by the balls and they are latched on tightly till AMD releases 4k capable single GPUs

Actually mate, the consumers themselves have a fault too. Remember there is this "nameshare" of "nvidia" going around. Now, AMD doesn't have the cash to do that much of advertising, as nVidia does. And yet the worst thing of all is, if you look at the odds, look at how much nvidia earned with their GTX 260, and then with their really bad Fermi line up, while AMD had the 5870s, Nvidia could barely match them, YET, they made 2x more money for just 3 months that AMD made in 3 years!

It is not AMD's fault. It's the stupid consumer market. "nvidia" sounds in people's ears, that's what they buy, noone compares, they just buy what they are TOLD it's good, and F the competition. Even when AMD won, they still lost. The enthusiast market can't hold the market in a balance when there are 1000s of nvidia fanboys around.

For that reason, I don't care if Vega 10 wins or not whatever high end card their competitors have, I am just gonna buy it and not care if it can or can not be compared to GTX Titan X(P) or GTX 1080Ti. And keep in mind that Intel will use AMD Radeon iGPU for their future CPUs (they've given enough to nVidia at this point every year). In other words, AMD will have a big cash flowing in, they will supply iGPUs for Intel CPUs and for the consoles, as well as high end server CPUs that now they have a hands with Ryzen - and so they have now only 1 competitor - nVidia, or to be more precise, the mindshare of nvidia.

If you'll just take a look:

https://www.google.com/search?q=amd+nvidia+market+share&rlz=1C9BKJA_enUS590US590&hl=en-US&prmd=nisv&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjqgduWlpzRAhUJxlQKHW0wBBgQ_AUICCgC&biw=1024&bih=653#imgrc=g88_VTX6fz73XM%3

During the launches of the 4000 and 5000 series amd's market share SIGNIFICANTLY went up. So I have no idea what you're talking about.

And amd is only licensing IP to Intel, the same thing Nvidia has been doing to Intel for ages. Intel just switched recently. It's not really a huge cash flow. And if you took any look at amd's recent financial statements consoles generally only generate $100 million profit, MAX.

And if you're saying that they'll make a lot off CPUs, then what's the point of supporting GPUs? If they can make so much money off it then they'll have a ton of money to market and build GPUs?!?

AMD was at a steady 35-40% market share until Maxwell, so then it must not be mindshare. If a lot of people were buying before, then how could it be mindshare?

The 970 and 980 continue to see drivers, the 290 and 390 are not so lucky.

Now only looking at the drivers AMD didn't make is as bad as only looking at the ones they did. But we don't use cards for one game, do we?

Fun to be a fan, but it's dangerous if you take it too far. Letting AMD get away with things that you wouldn't Nvidia do will just get you a AMD that acts the same as Nvidia.

Eg: Releasing what is supposed to be the "proper" version of a GPU, and then having said GPU stealth share system memory so that it reports more vRAM than the card actually has

Original Geforce 6200 (128MB-256MB actual vRAM over a 128bit bus)

Replacement Geforce 6200 Turbocache (16, 32 or 64MB vRAM, 112-448MB system memory stealth shared) often sold with no differentiation from the original.

Yes BTW, I'm still fucking pissed about that. And when I bought my GTX 970 AMD didn't have any card with matching performance and power consumption for use on weaker PSU-so I had no alternative (fuck Nvidia for being scumbags, and fuck AMD for not competing)
