EVGA announces new G3 power supplies

EVGA has announced a new replacement for their current popular G2 power supply, the G3. The new unit is built on Super Flower's Leadex II Platform and has a smaller footprint, compared to the G2 units. The size of the power supply has been reduced from 200mm for the G2 down to 150mm for the G3, which should be a plus for compact size builds. Fan is also reduced from 140mm to 130mm, using a new type of bearing HDB, Hydraulic Dynamic Bearing instead of Ball Bearing on older units, and it even has EVGA's logo engraved on it. All of the G3 units except for the 550w, contains dual EPS 12V connectors for motherboard that requires extra power or for use on dual socket workstation boards. The 550w and 650w gets a 7 year warranty, rest of them gets a 10 year warranty. Higher wattage models much arrive sometime in the future, and it's available for sale now at some online retailers. Price ranges from $90USD for the 550W to $160USD for the 1,000W, at Newegg.com

It's actually 1/4. G4 will be tier 1/16th.

It's interesting how we had a wave of 1500W or so PSUs, but now we're not really seeing many companies going over 1000w as it's just not needed anymore with all the power efficient components now. 

 

I wonder if they're release a G3L series soon, or if they're going to make people choose between the new G3 and the G2L.

But seriously, if you want 600 watts or so, and a nice design, that is somewhat quiet, you really only have the Corsair. And it's expensive AF.

what build do you need to power in a SFF case that needs more than 600w? (i think there are even some 650 and 700 ones now but not sure)

i got the G2 a month back, and damn i wish i've waited for the G2L and the G3. ah well.

 

only thing missing is being able to control the fans. just control all the fans in my PC

But SuperFlower was always really good with ripple if not the best (considering it is analog).

IMO, the PSU are not standard size.

Huh? Those are the official specs and the stamped metal isn't likely to be off much.

 

But anyways, the simple clarification that the drop from 200mm is for the 1000W would be good.

Typo, the psu are now standard size.

 

Edit: EVGA is 150mm slightly over the standards

Is this in addition to the G2, or is this replacing the G2 in production?
Because if so, I might want to get my PSU before they go out of stock if this marks the end of production of the G2.

I don't think so, you can still buy G1s.
