Hasn't AMD slated Vega's release data as 1H 2017 though? Which means April or later, otherwise they would have said Q1 2017.

Also I think it's gonna be 2080 not 1180

 

And in case you did mean 1180 not really: the 1080 series of cards have been staying as a good second best tier for a while. It's fairly easy to assume that ever since the original titan we get x70 and x80 then the Titan and then the x80ti that matches the Titan.

 

The titan is always way overpriced. In the beginning it used to have ECC and double precision making it a decent Quadro like workstation card, today it's just BS.

The most recent statements we saw from Vega was q1 2017 at the show thing in Jan (forget it's name). Kaby Lake is also expected to launch then and Zen. 

 

Nvidia recently showed they like to preempt AMD's launches a bit to steal the thunder, so if the 1080ti is launching in Jan, I'd expect Vega announcement then and launch a month or so later.

Trust me you'll love a 1070.    I love the fan stop on my Gigabyte G1 1070.  When I'm playing some games (usually older ones) or on the desktop my 1070 stops the fans and is totally silent.  Even with the fans on it's noticeably quieter than my old 970 was.

 

What do you mean by "+$60 Nvidia money"?

The 3.5GB VRAM debacle. They're offering everyone who bought a GTX970 between Sept. 2014 and Augst 2016 $30 per purchased card as a settlement. I think it's only in the US though as far as I know.

I think it's only standalone. You need to provide them with a serial number or proof of purchase. Could be wrong though.

People has been asking for the 1080ti since the first 10XX card was released. When Titan got refreshed, everyone immediately started to speculate what would that imply for the 1080ti. This surprises no one, yes, but precisely because it doesn't surprise anyone we ask: what is the point of doing it? After so many instances of the same, is it really possible to trick anyone into buying a Titan? If it is, why? And if it's not, why they launch it anyway? Is it some kind of "look at this 8GHz cpu that can overclock to 12GHz, I think I'll price it $3000" for brand marketing purposes kind of behavior? But even then, does it give them anything the 1080ti won't give them anyway?

If this is true, then Nvidia is seriously going to cannibalize BOTH the GTX 1080 and the Nvidia Titan X in one go, just for the 1000 series. Same thing with what they did with the GTX 980 and the GeForce GTX Titan X for the 900 series, and like what they did with the Titan Black and the GTX 780 with the 780 Ti in the 700 series.

If this leak is true, then I'm really surprised that Nvidia went ahead and released the 1080Ti without any competing card from AMD. Other than seemingly shooting themselves in the foot, maybe the green team is looking to pre-emptively out-do AMD even before Vega is released? I'm not really sure what to think right now.

 

Even though I only recently bought my GTX 1080 knowing a Ti may be released soon after, I'm still solidly satisfied with my purchase. It will be another 3 months until the Ti "releases" and another 3 months before supply meets demand in 'ol Canadia. Coming from a 280X, I would not have wanted to wait another 6 months for my GPU upgrade.
