Samsung thinking about 3.5 jack

Samsung is exploring the idea of removing the 3.5mm jack on future phones, and may opt with a new proprietary port and have licensing control over it.

Samsung may be following apple on the 3.5 jack removal.

Called it. Give it 2 generations and the 3.5mm Jack will be a fond memory.

I hope you realise its only the Note line thats having those problems. The S line is perfectly fine

No but they do set the trends that others mostly follow. Like I said, another 2 generations max and all the major manufacturers will have ditched the jack too.

But why?

A) Size? Not that there is a customer-need of slimmer devices, but the iphone 7 isn't even any thinner.

B) Water-proofing? Ok, I get it: connectors are a problem, when it comes to dirt and water. But this problem was already solved in 2015.

C) Price? Yeah, the 3$ production-costs in a 800$ device might be a reason, at least in the mind of some business-people.

D) Marketing? Would be my guess. I mean, everyone is hating on the iphone 7, but at least they are talking about it. I have the feeling, that phone-manufacturers, especially apple, are used to be seen as very innovative companies, that mass-produce small revolutions. But in the least few years, they just ran out of ideas for useful features to add. So they remove them, to do at least something new...

Apple and Samsung together set the standard for phone making business. All the non-apple phone makers mocking at apple. And at the same time following their trend. It's been on for a lot of years already. I guess in the end the customer do not have a say in this. We cannot control what they do or not do. We only adapt. Look at fashion world. You think all those models like every year's new style? Hell not. How can be one trend for everyone? But they adapt to it. Just to keep themselves in the game.  Same thing goes for other business. PC market has been the same too. Look at RGB lighting, for example. Product selling companies have to find all these "selling point"  to sell you the product. The consumer themselves never gonna buy new product unless you make them think they need it. They need it to be faster, to be flashier , to be more convenient. If they don't think it is more convenient , you tell them it is.

Not only do they remove it (which is fine depending on the person), but they replace it with a proprietary port... Why couldn't they stop at just removing it? Last thing we need is a whole bunch of proprietary ports...

Fucking stop removing standards that have no issues, and who's capacity hasn't even gotten close to being reached yet. 

 

I'd be 'more' okay with it if they included a SECOND usb-c port for headphones, but if there's only a single port then that's an instant deal breaker for me. Why the fuck are these companies not listening to the massive outrage against this utterly moronic decision.
