If my games worked on Linux there would be no reason to have to deal with Windows and MS. Man that would be nice. We can all wish

If support wasn't a problem I'd go full linux in a heartbeat, however if I had to pick ONE os to use all the time right now it would have to be windows because of game support.

As much as I would love to say Linux... Sooner or later, you'll have to use the Terminal, and that's bad for mainstream adoption. So as long as they cling for dear life to the Terminal, Windows is just the better choice.

I dual boot right now, but I'd kill to be able to hit "delete" on that Windows partition. Gaming is the only thing holding me back from that (maybe 1/5th of my games are on Linux)

Linux is just a fragmented trash OS barely worth using. If improved software support means I don't have to look for dependencies that no longer exist and getting things to work doesn't require several lines of commands in the terminal, then MAYBE Linux is worth considering.

I see your point, but then you could always buy the cheapest os and just make a few changes to it and make it run like which ever you like lol. if that were true id take the best each os has to offer and make one super OS. but unfortunatly its not possible. :( But think about it tho, an OS as light as linux, but with the ease of a Mac but the power of Windows. thats an os id be really interested in.

Package managers exist for a reason.

 

 

And do you really want to talk about dependency problems as a reason for using Windows? There is like 100 different dependencies for DirectX, and they are version specific. An application using the second to latest version will not work on the latest version (which is why you almost always have to install a new DirectX version when you start a game on Steam).

Not to mention DLL hell (which has caused me troubles more times than I can count).

That's because you are used to Windows. You're suffering from something called "baby duck syndrome".

It's the same reason why you would find DVORAK confusing now that you have learned QWERTY. It's not necessarily that QWERTY is easier, but it is what you are already accustomed to.

However wrong I think this is, let's say, for the sake of argument, that you are, in fact, correct. This still leaves style/design, price, and reputation (in the case of the ever-popular hatred towards Microsoft). So, your original point is still moot.

Assuming that we had 100% cross-compatibility with all software, then you could run the explorer shell on OS X or GNU/Linux if you wanted. So basically, you could make OS X or GNU/Linux look and work like Windows currently does.

 

So the only difference would be "do you want your OS to be open source and free to use, or not?".

 

But it seems like that's not something you took into consideration when you asked the question.

I use my PC to game and benchmark as well as some random other things, I don't want to have any sort of trouble whatsoever trying to figure out how to install things, or have to open up terminal/CMD.

But say Apple allowed OS X to be put on any computer, like Linux and Windows, and had the software (including games) selection of Windows, I'd be using it full time.

I dont feel there is a better OS. Windows has the largest Software library known to man and is easy to use. Linux has security, its free, and more powerful for power users. I dont really have anything to say about MAC OS, but Im sure there are good qualities about that. I think its about the experience you want. Windows for instance is a good all around OS. While there are Linux distro's that exist, that might be for a particular purpose. Like Steam OS for gaming or Ubuntu Studio for design. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
