PSU Tier List [OLD]

Go to solution Solved by Spotty,

This is a legacy list. It is no longer being updated.

The new PSU Tier List can be found here:

yeah, but there's gonna be some that'll want to know which tier it belongs to without the fan. I'd suggest just putting 1 asterisk for a tier 1 and 2 asterisks for tier 2 rather than 3 for all of them.

One Asterisk is very hard to see. Maybe a spoiler at the bottom of the post could include clarifying details about various PSUs.

@STRMfrmXMN I'd pull the clarification of the asterisk out of the spoiler though, I don't think anyone will open the spoiler, they'll just scroll to the bottom. (or ignore the asterisks altogether)

B3 has better components (Japan caps etc) but both have sleeved bearing fan which has shorter lifespan

That's fine for me considering the 5-year warranty and that the fan will barely kick on.  Probably gonna pick up a B3 soon.

First one I agree T3. Second T3 I agree aswell. Third either T1 or T2, I'm leaning towards tier two however.

Im sorry I made a mistake. I meant Rosewill Photon, Based on reviews, its very noisy and it breaks pretty quickly.

Also why are all Seasonic PSU's listed as Tier 2 on tomshardware? http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/id-2547993/psu-tier-list.html

Because they don't like to be accurate?

One of their requirements for T2 is Haswell certification, which many of those PSUs will fail.

Can you put that image in a spoiler?

Setting aside how I feel about Tier list, I would like to talk about "Haswell C Stepping certification". In order for something to be Haswell certified / ready in Intel's eyes, it require 0.05A on 12V1 and 0.10A on 12V2 rail and max load on the 3.3V / 5V while all rails still maintaining ATX specification. If there's only one 12V rail that 0.15V is loaded on it.

Pretty much any group-regulated PSU will fail, so why power supplies such as Antec Earthwatt Platinum, High Current Gamer, Seasonic S12II / M12II-B / EVO, XFX TS 550-SEW, PC Power and Cooling Silencer MKIII 400/500/600, etc. are under Tier 2 with "Haswell C Stepping certification"? Because technically that is incorrect.

Also, the Antec Earthwatts Platinum is based on the Aurum 92+ platform, and yet they are in different tiers? I would understand it if it was the other way, since the Aurum has a better fan, but what makes the Earthwatts Platinum a higher "tier"?

A 1070 and i5 will use less than 300W under load.

I think you should be able to find a Corsair Vengeance in France, yes?

Will you recommend 550 or 650, what I think is 550 is enough for all my system and the upgrade ability for the future, tell me what you think I can always use an expert advise and also thanks for your response.

I'll put the Smart Pro on tier 3, the FSP Dagger.. eh, probably tier 2, probably pass on the Riotoro unit until someone can give me a location where this is a viable option.

A. Don't know much about it

B. Tom's Hardware doesn't care for accuracy, apparently. As @djdwosk97pointed out, the Seasonic M12, for example, is not actually Haswell certified since it's group-regulated, but ya know, that's why we created this list.

That's not a reason to exclude it imo; there are quite a few PSUs on the list that literally never make sense.

I don't even get it choosing the right PSU is like the hardest part if you are on budget.

If this doesn't make it easier what does?
