I've been in this industry a long time and I've been trying to figure out what EVGA is trying to do with dumping so many different PSUs on the market and I just don't get it.

Sorry, I still haven't gotten an answer and I'm still a bit hesitant to put everything together. Will I be fine with the 750w G3 or should I be worried and switch to a different model/brand? Any suggestions? Am I fine and am just overly paranoid right now?

Hi everyone. I'm just now reading about the issues are G3 series is having and am a bit worried since I don't really understand everything about PSU's. I already have all these parts and am ready to put this together, would I have any issues with a 750w G3 or should I look into a different PSU? https://pcpartpicker.com/user/jbassfox/saved/4QMBP6

Make what you want of the information that is out there, but if I owned it I would not hesitate to use it. I don't know what particular flaw the 750 G3 had but the 850W one had OTP set too high.

What are your system specs? You probably don't need 750W unless you have two GPUs, and if you have two GPUs you'd probably be better off with just one.

Oh, is that only limited to the 850W version and not the 750W?

Ah, well that system will use around 400W with lots of OC, so a 650W unit is more than plenty and allows for a few more HDDs if you ever decide to add more. 550W would still be plenty though.

Get the 550W or 650W G3, depending on whether or not the 650G3 is very close in price to the 550G3.

I already own the 750W G3, I bought it a little while ago when I first saw it go on sale for $80, so I probably won't exchange it unless it was for a completely new brand. I'll definitely stick with a 650W PSU next time though. I was just more worried about some reviews that mentioned bad OTP and loud noise. I live in a house that gets pretty hot in the summer and am worried about how the heat will effect it.

It had similar performance to the Formula Gold which was closer to the GQ over the G2 (the two performance baselines)

Would you recommend holding off on buying until that happens? I've been recommending that PSU to a friend for a build and I'm wondering whether I should tell him to buy now, wait, or buy a GQ now.

I guess it depends on where they live. If it were my house where there's a surge protector built in, plus the surge protector I plug my PC into, then sure, I'd buy it. If they were in a part of the world where power goes out frequently or the like then I'd probably wait a little bit. However, this is a high-end FSP unit, so I doubt that will be an issue.

It has no OTP... I'd err on T3. Probably T4.

I have no clue why they thought a 10-year warranty was good on a PSU with a fan that will probably be dead before 5, but hey.

So... Like Canada? Where BCHydro keeps increasing my power bill and has outages all the time for "mechanical difficulties?"

Probably because people throw out boxes, proofs of purchase, don't register their product on time, etc. I know I don't really like being flooded by boxes, I like to send them right to the trash.

Semi-joking question.  Do you even really see the RGB of the PSU in most modern cases?  Alot of them opt for PSU shrouds and such.

I remember the Rosewill lightening being a pretty neat looking psu.  No idea if it was a good unit, but it looked cool and way before the RGB trend.
