RX 460 benchmarks revealed! Definitely not VR ready!

Guys the RX 460 will murder GTX 1080, 150mhz base clock, 2.5ghz boost clock, 19.7GHZ GDDR5.

Who watches keynotes about sub $200 GPUs? That's sad.

I watched the PC Gaming Show in hopes someone from AMD would unveil a good GPU that would more directly compete with the GTX 1070 but I'm starting to wonder if maybe the RX 480 (8GB) might come really close to the GTX 1070 at a little over half the price of the GTX 1070. Similar story to their Computex event I was hoping for a 490 or 490X that would match or beat the GTX 1070 that would be slightly cheaper. All we got was Sub $300 cards which might actually be pretty decent but still. Not as impressive as the GTX 1070 before you see that the cheapest 1070 I found was $420 from EVGA but can't be bought yet.

$410 would be a little better, but I guess $10 more isn't too bad. Regardless here's to waiting another 9 days to see if AMD brought to market a product that will either have amazing price/performance and performance/watt or if it's just an okay price/performance GPU good for the entry level VR and 1080p market (which arguably is a huge section of the market) but, there shouldn't be a need to ignore the mid-range to "enthusiast with not a lot of money to spend" category where they can afford 1440p but getting something like a 1070 or similarly priced is too expensive for them or the additional cost would be fine but they would rather spend less. So I'm hoping that maybe the RX 480 might be able to get into the mid-range/"enthusiast with not a lot of money to spend" but wants 1440p at high to ultra settings averaging 60fps.

The RX 460 will more than compete, it will pave a road through the GTX 1080 with it's mammoth sized FPS.

If you actually mean the RX 460 sure it will  

 

If you meant RX 480, well maybe in a Crossfire set up but that costs more than a GTX 1070. Also, CF while better than SLI from what I hear, still has some issues with scaling in support.

But it's not like that makes saving $100 on the GPU much more sensible. The 480 pretty much makes it as cheap as even makes sense at this point.

The 270 is a tier above the 370 (and 470?) in AMDs lineup.

 

The 270 uses an uncut version of the 3rd-largest GPU in the 200 series (counting Tonga and Tahiti together, since Tonga was pretty much a straight replacement performance-wise).

 

The 370 uses a cut-down version of the 4th-largest GPU in the 300 series.

So its more powerful than my GTX 650ti OC 2GB (which is still my favourite graphics card-its what got me from can't-play-post-2004-games to maxing out all games at 1024x768 (so sue me, that screen outlasted my 1080p TV)

Well of course it's not. RX 480 was mean to be really good VR ready priced card, you know, as minimum too. Cause I'm sure devs are not making minesweeper for VR so GPU power is needed for future developing titles.

No idea how why u expected low-mid end GPU under $150 (480 is 200 so 460 cant be anywhere near) to be capable of constant 90 FPS at 1200p...

Did you honestly truly expect a sub-$120 GPU to do full VR stuff?

 

AMD has said it themselves. RX480 is the only VR-capable card. RX470 will be the 1080p60fps-with-high-details GPU and the RX460 will be suitable for e-sports games (the MOBAs that is, don't see it doing very well with fast-paced competitive shooters where people expect 120fps+, to which I say spend the extra $40-50 and get an RX470).

Even the 950 can get 200+fps in CS:GO. Most e-sports games don't need a lot of power

Only if you turn down the details. You won't see that thing doing 200+ fps with the graphics turned up, something AMD wants to be possible alongside high fps numbers.

well, on medium in CS:GO I get 200fps on a 860M (750 TI) so it is easy to do with a 950 on high settings.

This is why I have to believe he's concern trolling AMD, there is no way someone thinks a card advertised for esports is somehow VR ready.....

AMD never said it was supposed to be a VR card. VR at the price of the 460 is a LONG way away.
