RX 460 benchmarks revealed! Definitely not VR ready!

There is not a single 1070 that I have seen bellow 410$. Feel free to prove me wrong. Rules: Has to be available for purchase immediately, not out of stock or used.

1080s are 650$ for the cheapest one.

980 Ti Matrix matched the 1080 in TTL's review. Not sure what YOU are watching/reading

You have to wait for the 1070s to stabilize their prices, the demand for them raised the price up to $700 right after they launched, and have been creeping down.

I did actually. I pointed you to TTL's video. Go watch it, I am certain a man of your caliber knows how to google things. At least I hope you do.

And his video covers 1 extreme overclocking case, not the general. He compares a stock 1080 with no OC against the most overclocked 980TI there is. Some valid comparison... I provided you a detailed arsetechnica review.

The 1080 beats both mildly overclocked Titan Xs and 980TIs and beats 980SLI. The 1070 matches stock Titan X. The 960 will have a bit of headroom over a 980 easily.

The Matrix 980 Ti isn't that far OCed actally. Do read.

20%? He said he has it at stock so Turbo Boost 3.0 is doing it's thing - same on the 1080

That base speed of the Matrix is a 20% overclock above a standard 980TI, and the memory comes pre-boosted too. And actually his GPU Boost 3.0 must have been malfunctioning, because he doesn't even break the rated boost clock. I provided you a much stronger source in Arsetechnica. Read it and weep. The 1080 trounces stock 980TI and Titan X -which was the goal- for far less cost. The 1070 matches a stock Titan X for FAR FAR less cost, and that leaves the 1060 to squarely take up the 980 performance bracket before any overclocking.

Yet again AMD topic get derailed by nvidia marketing team.

Slowly...In the hollows of the trees, In the shadow of the leaves, In the space between the waves, In the whispers of the wind,In the bottom of the well, In the darkness of the eaves...

Slowly places that had been silent for who knows how long... Stopped being Silent.

Not his fault the poorly designed Fermi Edition overheats. 980 Ti is more powerful than the 1070. Tis how it is.

It only overheats if you leave the fan profile limited to 60%. JayzTwoCents and OC3D did videos proving this.

I didn't expect the 460 to be that close to VR capable though.

So this is gonna be fairly close to the 950 if I'm not mistaken?

I hope we finally get this as a half height, single slot, no power connector card that can upgrade the dated 750 as the htpc itx card of choice.

If they can manage a passive cooled one it would be very impressive.

Rumoured power draw is 60W so Passive is very easy to do. Hell, the full RX460 can easily replace the 960M in laptops and offer 80% more power. Also, performance is closer to a 960

Why actually thought a 100$ card or so would be VR ready? Be realistic.

Watching Intel have competition is like watching a headless chicken trying to get out of a mine field

Could you remove the part in the title about it not being VR ready, it's kinda like buying a Mini then complaining that it can't pull a plough.

The RX480 is the VR card. If you're not doing VR on the thing you'll be doing great at 1440p or max everything out in modern games at 1080p. $200 for the 4GB model and around $230 for the 8GB model.

The RX470 is the 1080p monster. It already did 60 fps in Hitman at high settings and 121 fps in Overwatch according to some early benchmarks. It'll be for those who are fine with not playing at max settings, or for those who play competitive shooters at high fps such as TF2, CS:GO or indeed Overwatch. $140-$150 for the 4GB model, around $170 for 8GB.

The RX460 is for the e-sport games, particularly MOBAs. DOTA 2, LoL, that kinda stuff. Don't expect it to do anything useful at higher than 1080p. As for the FPS e-sport games, I don't know. The RX470 seems to be the better option in that regard. Apparently the RX460 comes in 2GB and 4GB flavors, so I expect it to cost at around $90-100 for the 2GB model and $110-120 for the 4GB model.

This is purely based on what's referenced in the OP and what AMD's been putting out.

Nah, if we're talking about (Th)fermi we would mention room heaters and toasters, not energy efficient and cool-running GPUs.

Who watches keynotes about sub $200 GPUs? That's sad.

It was part of the e3 pc gaming show it was a brief showing of the cards, literally 2 mins if that.

But, was it supposed to be a VR card? I don't think so

Exactly what I was thinking... the 480 is only $200 so this is going to be a real budget card; no way they expect people to run VR on this.  And even if you could, it doesn't make sense; a $100 (or whatever it is) GPU with an $800 VR headset?  I doubt anyone would do that - if you can afford the vive, you can afford at least a 480 if not a 1080.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.
