Is it going to keep getting worse ?

So when I first joined the community on this forum was absolutely brilliant and for the most part it still is, for example all the regular posters seam to just get more and more helpful with a few exceptions obviously but a while back I remember when new people came to the forum asking for help they would be really grateful and accept feedback but now more and more often I'm seeing new members either trolling or just looking for arguments on topics and I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this recently or if it's just me and do you guys think it'll get worse ? Personally I think this is the most friendly and helpful community I've ever had the pleasure of being a part of and it's sad to see an increase in trolls lately, maybe I'm just being over dramatic here I was just wondering what other peoples thoughts on this were

i dont think you are, another thing that really annoys me is people just dumping stuff in the general section, something ive noticed increasing recently.

Yes it is going to get worse.

I'm not exactly helping the situation but yeh...its going to get to a point where moderators start to get brutal to keep the forum tidy and clean.

Yet it has not reached the critical amount and I hope it won't as the forum would be badly hurt.

I have also noticed an increase in overly sensitive people. [Like the "homo" debate and similar topics]

I feel this forum is getting too wimpy and Linus is shut up no matter what he says because random troll X is offended by random statement Y.

And Linus is giving in way too easy.

That was sort of what I was thinking will happen, maybe they will get especially brutal with newer members who troll too

I dont know if will get worse. I think that these trolls will eventually get bored and leave and if they expect much help after starting arguments then they are severely mistaken

Me neither. I don't like this kind of censorship. A forum is made for debates afterall =P

 

Especially that "homophobic" thread. Linus clearly made the wrong concluding decision. We watch Linus because we like how Linus is in general. If he gives in to every wimp with sand in his vag, it's not going to be what the majority expects of his content. [There was a huge discussion about TotalBiscuit about pretty much that - I watch TB because I want to hear his uncensored oppinion / humor and so on, not him giving virtual BJs to everything he encounters.]

Way to many immature users are here for those kind of topics unfortunetly. They will rant without any real proof or argument and mods will lock or delete the topic.

While there are a few that are younger I don't think that's the main reason I think it's mainly because the forum is more popular now, I'm young and although I'll admit occasionally I'll say something I shouldn't i think I treat the forum and it's members with respect

I don't think that's the way to go about it I think maybe it should go by some sort of system of respect a forum member has so people who don't get too aggressive are allowed to post because I've seen many older people be immature too, also a bit off topic but what did linus say about the whole homopobic thing ?

About adding even some part of ID is kind of disturbing.

 

Frankly forum should be expanded a bit like in ex. OC3D where in Offtopic chat there are subforums for humor, serious talk and such.

...and as with any statement, there will be outliers. Congratulations on being one of them. However, it doesn't change the fact that many of the users are young, immature, and can't use grammar properly.

I know what you mean. I do not have many posts but I have been around a little while and I have seen this happen. But yeah it's the internet, lets hope that it is not going to be on the same level of youtube comments...

Ofc people 21+ can be immature too. It's not like I wasn't sometimes lawl. But you could rule out the really really young kids. Perhaps have a little higher niveau of life-experience. Probably rather a non-tech related part of the forum, as there seems to be quite a few non-tech related hot topics ^^ [Perhaps put the sensitive topics there? Have it non-moderated?]

Most online game shops here in Switzerland actually require you to do the age / identity check, since if you sell 18+ games to minors, the authorities will tear you a new one. [Pay lol-sums or close your store].
