I should test this for fun, see which of my games run well on the iGPU, wonder if Rocket League would as Unreal Engine is not insanely heavy I imagine. Thing is though, I also have a gaming laptop so I guess I easily could because my laptop would take over as the main gaming rig.

Main rig: Intel i7 6700K @ 4 Ghz with Silverstone Argon AR06 + Noctua NF-A9x14 PWM, Asus Z170I Pro Gaming, 2 x 8 GiB Corsair LPX Red @ 2.133 Mhz, MSI GTX 1080 Founders Edition, 2 x Samsung 850 Evo 500 GB, Corsair SF600, Silverstone Raven RVZ02 (no window version).

For on the road: MSI GE72 2QC Apache with 16 GiB RAM upgrade.

Nothing I couldn't do without a massive amount of CPUs.

I'm kidding. I would struggle for leisure time. If I'm not programming or listening to music, then I'm probably playing a game. I don't play very many bleeding edge games, but I do like my maximum settings in MMOs. :)

For getting actual work done, no not really. I'd need to find another way to drive my three monitors, but that's not hard to do.

82 FPS? Wow.. Last time I ran an iGPU (HD 5000 on a MacBook Pro retina) Civ 5 was awesome smooth, until about 10 turns in on a large map. Once I'd uncovered enough of the map, it dropped hard, to like 12 FPS.

For me? Not on my desktop.. Yay Xeon! So I'd have an expensive chunk of metal taking up a drawer. But I can use my Surface for most things (although good luck rendering on that..). I enjoy a bit of gaming here and there, but I could just as easily find something else to do (read a book maybe?) so that's not an issue.

Ez. I went through a similar situation: bought new CPU + mobo, only to be trolled by my case not fitting the GPU (PCIe positioning was diferent). As a result, I spent a while with no GPU.

Really, you can live. One way to go about it is watching other people play. Say, if get some old games you love and go look for speedruns / streams of that game. Another way to survive is with emulators. They require mostly CPU power, no care for GPU.

Trust me, it's only painful in the first 2 weeks. After that, you get used to it.

That is why you always have backup graphics card that is decent enough to play games. GTX 1080 is going to cost you $699 dollars at launch they are only releasing the Founders Edition cards at launch to make the extra $100 dollars per card you won't see MSRP cards for months just FYI.

This, a hundred times this.

I have a r9 270 for this reason. My 970 will likely take over when I upgrade from it. I don't tend to upgrade every gen tho.

I can play GTAV with the Intel onboard of my 4690K ocd to 4.5ghz.

Of course everything is set to low and it's running at a console killing 40 fps.

This is also why I never get rid of my old cards.  Last time I had a problem with my most powerful gpu, I tossed in one of my old ones (650ti) and I was able to hit 60fps of GTA5.  Everything was turned down but still playable.

That's why I'm an advocate to spend more money on the cpu rather than gpu.  Keep them balanced if possible.  If not, more money on the cpu is my tip.

Heh, if my 980 ti stopped working, I wouldn't even have to open it up. I'd just have to move the display cables over to my 780.

I'd have to open it up to fix it, though...

I don't think I'd fare too well with an iGPU in my rig. Especially because I wouldn't have CUDA.

Without a graphics card? No. X99 and all.

I might have a GTX 680 in my closet. I can't remember what the hell I did with that card. Otherwise I'd have to use my old gaming laptop or my old HD4870.
