Zotac launches GT710 PCIe x1 video cards

Video card maker Zotac has recently launched their Nvidia GT710 running on the PCIe x1 interface, where 99% of them runs on PCIe x16.

The ZOTAC GeForce GT 710 1 GB (ZT-71304-20L) video card is powered by a cut-down version of NVIDIA’s GK208 GPU with 192 CUDA cores, 16 texture units and 8 ROPs. The GPU is based on the Kepler architecture, which supports Direct3D feature level 11_0, OpenGL 4.5 as well as OpenCL 1.2 APIs. The chip is clocked at 954 MHz and has compute performance of around 366 GFLOPS (well below that of modern iGPUs). The card is equipped with 1 GB of DDR3-1600 memory featuring 12.8 GB/s bandwidth.

Finally those x1 slots on motherboards can be put to good use. And I can finally build my 7 GPU gaming rig on the cheap! Yay!

you can SLI without the bridge, but it's a pita to get it to work. The gpus also needs to support SLI too.

Well older PCs like my shitty OEM one have x1 slots.

if you can find a PCIe switch you could theoretically put 16 of these on a 16 lane slot - imagine the number of monitors you can hook up

Wouldn't you be driver limited? 

 

I know AMD drivers allow for up to something like 24 displays. An AMD card like this would be interesting for those applications that require a ton of monitors.

Any lower than mainstream platform tend to have pcie 1x slots. Like super low power platforms and older platforms. This is actually a great idea.

In case you're not joking....if it's paired with a GT730, then it's powerful enough.

On newegg the pcie x16 is $10USD less then the x1 version. Another case of paying more for less.

Maybe your motherboard i/o doesn't have the right output connector, or you want to add a third display (most motherboard i/o plates only have two video outputs).

Passive cooled, nice!

Perfect for a copute server that needs a super cheap video output. But seriousely, this is as useful as my GPU soldered to the MoBo (not the iGPU) with 16 MByte of VRAM. It displays an image just fine, but you can't do any kinde of compute with it.

I've bought PCI GT610.. It's for my uncle's PC. It has Pentium D with no PCIe slots in it.

They perform identically, you're crazy if you think a GT710 requires all 16x of PCIE
