IMO my "old" evga 980ti sc+ acx 2.0+ looks fancy, the only flaw is white LED instead of green, so they could use the same style with green instead of white

and 2gb more vram could help running on 3440x1440

With all due respect, if this is the new reference cooler (and that's a huge "if"), this is only one part of the overall cooler/shroud assembly. It may look weird or "ugly" in it's current state, but might look much better once it's finalized/assembled with the rest of the cooler and fan(s). ;)

That and they aren't going to call it a 1080 or 1070.

I would venture to say its very likely that it is real. CNC is used quite allot in final manufacturing. Of course its not going to machined out of a solid billet. Manufactures like apple roughly cast the parts and do finish machining that takes off just enough material to remove the cast face. It looks like that is what is going on in the pictures as there is not just a clamp to hold a piece of aluminum in place. There are shaped mounting points on the mill that are meant to hold a pre-formed part. CNC machining is not nearly as expensive as you would think.

Well I suppose when you have the equipment on pre-hand, then it lowers costs. But I'm still quite sure that Nvidia die forms their shrouds or casts them. That combined with the fact that it won't even be called the GTX 1080 or 1070 makes this fake anyways.

 

IMO the shroud looks tacky :/

Looks ugly.

 

I really like AMD'S RX 300 series of reference coolers. I generally like the cleaner look of them and they just look more mature and composed than the more gaudy NVIDIA reference coolers. I don't get why every new card has to look like an attack helicopter.

It's still original, just with some slight changes. it's not like they did a brand new design. Besides all other gpu will have their own design, so you won't get this, unless you're looking for the reference cooler. Now if you look at that carefully, there are 4 screw holes, so that must be the bottom piece. Another piece with the window probably goes on top of that.
