If your parents take away your phone......they could face up to 6 months in jail!

AlTech

In the US anything the parent buys even if it is for the child is property of the parent. Until a child reaches adulthood (generally 18 yrs old) the property belongs to the parent. The judge that made this ruling was making an illegal and unethical ruling, he made what we call an activist ruling by an activist Judge. Judges that make ruling outside the law cannot be honored. This is why we have a system that allows for an appeal process. The whole situation stinks of activist intervention from the outside. This should never had reached a court for a state decision.

The parent was within their rights to do what was done. Whether it was to prevent a possible crime or to issue a punishment. I am a parent myself and I tell you that kid would not only lost the phone but his account deactivated, extracurricular activities stopped so the only place he went to was school for schooling and home. Lastly grounded for an indeterminable amount of time until I the parent was satisfied the lesson was learned.

Respect for family went down the drain as soon as they commit robbery or assault on their children.

You cannot commit such crimes if all property belongs to the parent to begin with. If the child was 18, had a job, lived outside the parents house and paid for himself this would be another story all together.
