New Galaxy Note 5-s have a fix for the stuck S-Pen issue

Back in August during the launch of the Galaxy Note 5, an issue was discovered that could potentially break the device. If you stuck the S-Pen in backwards—pointy part first instead of flat part first—it would get stuck. From there, you'd have to forcefully remove the S-Pen, which could potentially break the top off the pen or damage the pen eject functionality.

Samsung's first response to the problem was to ship the Note 5 with a warning sticker on the screen, but now Phandroid has discovered that new Note 5-s will offer a real, physical solution.

Pen detection on the Galaxy Note 5 was handled by an internal switch that the pen would hold down on when it was inserted. When put in backward, a void in the top of the pen would catch the spring-loaded switch, trapping the pen. Samsung has now put a flexible, plastic cover over the switch, which acts like a ramp. When the thinner part of the S-Pen passes over the switch in this setup, the ramped plastic allows the pen to press the switch down rather than catch it. (The cover also seems to be attached with adhesive tape.)

Samsung hasn't said it will be offering this fix to existing customers. So for most owners, the advice is still "don't do that."

Well , that took a while , even though I think nobody was expecting them to actually fix it.

Its more common than you think. Either kids might put it backwards, or you might put it backwards unknowingly (as it offers zero resistance before its too late) or curiosity will get the better of you like what happened to Linus's unit

Seriously the only reason samsung fixed it now was because they were getting too many broken Note 5s to get replaced, especially since all of them are under warranty

Samsung still haven't changed the name. The thread title was using standard English grammar to denote plural.

Unless you count the S in iPhone 3GS as an S model, then Samsung started using the S first for their first Galaxy phone in 2010. But honestly, so many phones (and other products too) use letters and very specific ones at that. S, X, A, Z probably being the most popular ones for high end stuff.

How are they being stupid? How can anyone be so dense to even think that they are copying Apple? Putting an s at the end of a word to make it plural has been in the English language for centuries. It is a fundamental grammar rule in English.

It is not the "Note 5 S". It is "Note fives".

 

"New Galaxy Note fives have a fix for the stuck S pen issue".

 

They are not releasing a new model with an S tag on it. It is still called the Note 5, but the newly produced ones got the pen detection breaking issue fixed.

 

Do you understand now? The s at the end is to make the noun into plural. It is part of the grammatical structure of the sentence, not the name of the product.

No... No dude... He means 5s as in the plural of 5. It could be rephrased as, "Future revisions of the galaxy note 5 will have a fix for the stuck pen." Like "Computer" vs "Computers."

No, there is nothing wrong with the way the headline is written.

The problem is that people jump to conclusions and assume that everyone are always copying Apple.

 

We should not have to avoid using proper grammar because putting an s at the end of a noun to make it plural might make it sound like we are copying Apple, who puts an S at the end of some of their products.
