1. I'm planning on using combination of one SSD and one HDD in my new rig. The SSD is ADATA SX900 XPG 128GB, whereas the HDD is Seagate Barracuda 1TB. The reasons are quite simple. Firstly, I don't tend to spend much money on storage devices.Secondly, I've always rather gone and put resources into core hardware, such as CPU,MB or GPU. And this SX900 SPG comes with and awesome ratio of price:reliability/speed so it was really a no-brainer. The SSD is a must nowadasy, and 128GB it quite enough for OS and some most important/mostly used applications.

I have a 64GB 830 SSD by samsung as my bootdrive, got 1x 1tb HDD for most of my storage for games editing etc. In laptop i have 1TB hitachi drive and a 64 gb mSATA as my boot drive. Use this config as this is one of the easier and cheaper solutions for the speed i need.

I have 2 Seagate Barracudas 1x120GB  and 1x160GB which probably should go back to the museum. Are set up in RAID-5 as this is how the builder did it before I bought it. Didn’t understand RAID then but do now. So for my first build/upgrade I will set it up for more speed. I mainly use it for graphic design and a flight sim. I have just bought a 1TB WD black and a Samsung SSD 120GB to upgrade over this coming months.

My storage solution is a 120 GB SSD for a speedy OS and a 1TB green for games, pictures, movies, however its getting rather full and couldnt buy anymore due to tution, CURSES!

I got this cause at the time It's all I thought I would have needed for a fast OS and storage without going pure SSD.

My primary boot drive is a 128GB SSD for OS, software and temporary files(Pictures, videos, ect.). Then a is a 400 GB hard dive from a laptop (video chip died on the laptop) were Steam lives and for smaller media most pictures and edited videos. Last is 1TB Seagate drive pulled out of a network Go-Flex (base died)  were I keep all video, pictures, and other files as an archive(Unedited video and backup of the laptop drive) and to edit video off of. I avoid using the TB hard drive since it is extremely loud and and annoying, It is also running low on space.

Hello I am a first time pc builder. I started in the summer and now have build two complete PC's. In my PC my the storage is as follows I have two HDD's one being a Segate HDD I recycled from an older computer which has 200GB and a 500GB WD that was recycled from a external hard drive. The reason why I have chosen these two HDD's is primarily based on budget. They operate well and they are both about 7-8 years old but still do the trick however WD Red would be AMAZING in my system :) I eventually would like to get an SSD to operate my systems and WD red any type to store my content. As I mentioned earlier I have built two PC's and the second one was for a friend who had the budget to get two 3 TB WD Red as per my recommendation and they run amazing. The rest of my details are as follows

CPU: i7 4770k

RAM: G. Skull 16GB

MotherBoard: Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H

PSU: CX750

GPU: Gigabyte Radeon 7970

Case: Define R4 White

To be honost i am not planning on making a NAS for myself anytime soon.

However my friend is very fanatic about the new NAS he's realizing (preparing to build).

If i happen to win wich is probably not going to happen, i will give the prize to my friend because that's what friends do.

(if this make me in-eligable for the prize thats fine rules are rules.)

My current set-up isn't anything special just a 488GB Seagate ST9500420AS HDD @ 7200RPM.

I'm planning on getting a SSD wich will most likely be a Adata S510 120GB as it has some good reviews and has enough capacity to store my OS and 1 or 2 big games.

My set up is akin to Frankenstein's monster. :P

In my desktop I have one OCZ Agility 3 60GB SSD. I use it to run my OS (Win7) and a few applications that I like to be snappy such as Chrome and Photoshop. I also have two other storage drives. One is a 160GB WD Blue drive and the other is a 320GB WD Blue. Both are from an old build and I've just kept them around. They still work and hold most of what I need (some project files and a portion of my Steam library).

Then there is my NAS...

It's very sad. It has two drives. The largest is an old IDE 120GB Seagate drive and the smaller is...well to be honest I have no idea. I think it is a Seagate drive as well. I do know that it is only 40GB and is IDE.

Oh and the NAS is actually an old Dell Dimension running freeNAS off of a cheapy flashdrive.

For me though it works, even though it's a hassle. The NAS stores some of my music (I stream most everything) and temporary backups/project files. Definitely not sensitive data.

Thanks for reading and good luck to everyone for this giveaway! :D

Right now I got a 120GB Samsung SSD for a boot drive with a 2TB Hard drive for storage. Why you ask, I wanted the faster booting of the SSD, but a SSD large enough (or enough smaller ones) for my game library was too expensive.

I've been playing with the idea of building a NAS for the house lately so this would be perfect if I won.

1x entry - Post about your storage setup in this thread. The most important thing is WHY you run the hardware you run. There are NO bonus points for talking about WD, and there are no wrong answers. It's okay to say what brands you're using, and it's okay to have a reason that's as simple as "my friend recommended it at the time"

My storage set up is a little disorganized at the moment. Spread throughout multiple usb hdd's, and an OS SSD, a single WD black caviar drive, and  4 x 3TB seagate barracuda raid 10 array.

I chose a raid 10 array after losing a couple TB in raid 0 when when the array became degraded. By running raid 10 I feel like the sacrifice in total size is worth the knowledge knowing I can recover from most issues. Luckily nothing major was lost as my paranoid and disorganized set up provides redundancy of a few vital bits of data. I also use a couple online "cloud" services for other things.

I chose an SSD for my OS and various programs needing speed, multiple usb drives for "cold storage" type of offline backups, my single 1tb internal for some games, and random stuff, then my raid array for entire steam library (nearly 2 TB) and other large files along with backups of primary OS drives.

I get the speed of an SSD, the redundancy that comes with a raid 10, offline storage for more permanent archival backups, and a single internal for swap and extra storage when/where needed.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

So.. my terrible storage set up? A single WD Green 2TB Hard-Drive... intensely slow, and that's all I got, i'm booting off of it and storing everything on it.. games and programs open slowly and booting is a chore. I would have loved to get an SSD but in Australia, SSDs and RAM are quite overpriced, so couldn't put one in the budget of the build, and Barracudas were out of stock, so that sucked.. the worst part is, my friend told me that a Green should be faster than a Blue, and I trusted him.

All my storage happens on an unraid server.  It has a 4tb drive for parity, a 300gb WD VelociRaptor for cache, and four WD 3TB green drives as data drives.  I have have about 1.8TB left, which means I could use another drive :)

at the moment i'm using a 120gig vertex 4 for my boot drive, i like the extra snappiness, although i don't think i got it to work properly, since my boot times are still quite bad.

i have a second samsung (i think) 64gig SSD for a few games i want fast loading times in, such as planet side 2 for instance. plus my music production software. (keeping online backups of the project files of course)

and on top of that i have an old-ish 500gig mechanical harddrive that i use for steam games and media files (music, movies, pictures etc.) for that one speed doesn't really matter, i do need to get some sort of backup for it though.

speaking of storage, it is one of the weaker points of my current system. (lga 2011)

I have a really old pc from dell which has 250gb hdd but I am starting to build a new PC and I think that this would be a great add on because I have alot of movies and music. And now since some pretty good games are coming out in the upcoming months, I could use the hdd for storage.

I had a 500gig blue drive at first but my chinese generic power supply at the time killed it. Then I decided to get something decent at the time, so did a little research and got the 1TB WD Black. However this was well over 3 years ago maybe. I currently am trying to afford an upgrade since 1TB is just not enough for my files and work fines :/

MY setup is a 1TB WD Caviar Green drive for data and 2 64GB Crucial M4 drive in Raid 0 for my boot drive. When I first built my computer I was on a fairly tight budget so I purchased the WD drive and then I realized that the boot times were REALLY slow so I got 2 64GB Crucial M4 drives in radio 0 for my boot.

I run a 1TB seagate drive in my desktop/gaming machine as I have no need for the speed of an SSD if it only effects the speed a program starts up (boot time edoesn't bother me for a desktop). So I opted for the cheapest option that is large enough for me.

On my desktop I have 1 Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 100GB IDE that came with my pc used for my operating system, software, and important documents. I also have a Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB SATA on the same system that was given to me by a friend used for games, music, videos, and files. My laptop has a Samsung 440GB Hard Drive that is used for absolutely everything. I would upgrade on both systems but I don't have a dollar to my name! xD

Desktop: Mushkin Chronos 120GB SSD for boot drive, 2 X 1TB Seagate 7200.12 HDDs for general storage. Various configurations of enclosures and HDDs for external storage.

Laptop: Kingston V+200 for boot drive.

A big factor in my buying decisions is price, and I usually buy what's on sale. The Mushkin SSD was my first SSD and it was a good enough price at the time for my first experience with SSDs. They're really great, and when I found a good clearance sale I picked up a cheap SSD for my ageing laptop. Warranty would be a close second to price in my buying decision. I remember getting two 500GB Seagate 7200.11 series drive and being impressed with the five year warranty. Not surprising I had to take advantage of that warranty and it continues to be something I factor into a buying decision.

I have a Kingston HyperX SSD 240gb for my boot drive, 1 tb for games and progs( a bit overkill, use it for miscelinius storage also) 1 tb for music, movies, backup etc, and another 1tb for visual art/photoshop and video montage for school/gigs. my "art" drive is almost full as my backup drive. 4tb in raid would be really usefull for better speed and better space for my work!
