WD Red 4TB GIVEAWAY!

LinusTech

I currently have a HP N40L MicroServer running two 3TB WD Reds in RAID1. I read that the WD Reds were made for NASes and hence I decided to try them out. The NAS is used to store backups for my family's PC at home, as well as shared libraries, like videos and pictures. I'm already running out of the space on the 3TBs; it'd be great to have more space to store more things!

I'm buying a new gaming rig next month, it will include:

Samsung 840 Evo 120GB for the OS and programs, 1TB WD Black for my Steam games and heavy programs and another 1TB WD Blue for mass storage.

I ordered the SSD for speed, the WD Black for reliability and the WD Blue because I needed a cheap mass storage solution.

I have a 120GB Sandisk Ultra SSD for boot and applications like Photoshop, because it is fast and cheap. I then have a 1TB Seagate Barracuda for music/photo storage and a 1TB WD blue for all my other applications. I bought one a year after the other because I originally thought 1TB would be enough for everything...Need more drives please!

i use a 256 GB samsung 830 for the OS and things i need to run fast, i wanted the ssd because of the speed, and i use a 1 TB samsung drive as primary storage, for games and music, i also have an older 1 TB WD blue which is the secondary storage drive for backup and movies. i use the HDDs because of the low price/GB compared to SSDs.

i do look forward to a future of pure SSD random read/write speed.

I've got an OEM desktop, and I have yet to change / upgrade my whole system.
Right now I'm using a 1 terabyte hard-drive for mass storage of everything, alongside a 500 gb external USB3 hard-drive that I use for backup.

Hi Linus!

I have 2x WD Caviar Blue 500GB HDDs, which I chose over Seagate's 500GB HDDs because of some very informative reviews.

I chose 2x 500GB opposed to 1x 1TB as I wanted to do some game recording. Unfortunately I didn't realise just how much space that took, so now I'm stuck with ~110GB between the two of them due to the sheer amount of raw footage I have saved!

Also, due to budget issues I wasn't able to get an SSD in combination with a 1TB HHD. Luckily, Christmas is around the corner and I've been hinting at the Mrs., so hopefully i'll have my hands on my first SSD soon ;)

Anyway, thanks a lot for this chance to win :)

I'm running a 1TB Samsung Spinpoint, along with a 160GB Maxtor i had laying around.  I need more space for videos and just general media.  Only reason I don't have an SSD is cause my budget has not allowed for one, and storage is one of my bigger concerns, not speed.

I use an ssd (128GB) it's way to small for my pressing needs, (but i don't have a choic€), which are learing to program and graphic design, as well as playing games, i run 2 operative systems, and it's fast so fills the need for speed. Funny thing, this ssd comes from a macbook pro that i ruined by spilling coffe on. It cost me over 4600$, just payed it off, fluids and electronics don't mix well togheter, i keep learning this the hard way, recently wrecked a calculator TI-89, trying to fix it, at a stalemate.

Wish me luck!

In my computer I have only one hard drive, namely an 1TB WD Caviar Green sata2. I use this HDD are both for system drive and data storage. The HDD is cool and quiet, and I'm completely satisfied with the performance. Therefore I chose WD, because these drives only heard good things, and in the web shop where I buy, these hard drives had the longest warranty. For some time I'm thinking about for obtain another HDD or an SSD for a separate system drive, but so far it has not been set.

I shared the giveaway for both Twitter and Facebook, but I have no idea where I can find the right shared link.

Current Storage Config for my dedicated storage machine:

- 512GB SSD as boot. Running a full blown Win8 OS as well as other "server" related software.

- 8 x 3TB Seagate HDDs setup in FlexRAID. One is set up as a parity drive so that is 21TB.

---

Why:

- Running the SSD as a boot drive for speed (obviously) and specifically went with the 3TB Seagates as they were great for capacity/$ at the time and I've only had one drive come DOA to me. No drive has died while in use at all even though Seagate seems to have a terrible reputation for reliability.

-The system itself is built purely for storing and handling media. The media is delivered locally and through Plex.

I'm using an Intel 330 series 120 GB SSD for my boot drive and other small programs for the awesome speed it delivers, and I got it on sale so it was cheap, and fast. For all my games, music, movies and other random programs I have a 2 TB Seagate Barracuda HDD, it works fine, and it was quite cheap when I got it. I also got a Lacie external 500 GB USB 3.0 HDD I use for backup of movies, music and just general data transfers, it's designed by Porsche so it has a really cool aluminum look to it, and a 8 GB SanDisk USB flash drive I use for small data transfers and such, and it was extremely cheap.  Never had any problems with any of it.

Awesome giveaway BTW! We love you WD and LTT!

Hey Linus, this is an awesome giveaway!

Anyway, here's my entry:

1. Currently I am waiting for my paycheck so I can actually build a new computer (old one broke) but I have already got the SSD at home, it's a Kingston SSDNow V300 240GB, I will also be using the old HDD I had in my old computer which is a Seagate Barracuda 328?GB. Not sure how much GB I had on the Seagate Barracuda. I'm going to use the Kingston SSDNow because I saw it in a build from Austin Evans, and the Seagate will simply be used because I won't have enough room in my budget to buy an extra HDD (I preferred the SSD because of the insane speed).

I have been watching your videos for a while now but I have never heard of giveaways before. It's a sweet giveaway!

Now, I have a desktop computer that I built for gaming only a week ago. It's my first desktop computer and the first computer i have built myself.

(with some help since I'm 15). In my computer I have a 1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM HDD for OS and everything else. It was a gift from my uncle. He said it will do the

trick since I have a large Steam collection and I store a lot of homework on it to. Also he said that later on when i save up some money I could get a SSD as well. Since I  live in Turkey

I brought all the parts for my computer from the UK. I used to live there, now I only go on holidays. The parts in Turkey are really expensive. My

little brother is also looking into doing a computer like mine.

Thanks LinusTechTips for this great giveaway, big fan of your channel. :)

I have a boot 128 GB Samsung 830 SSD in my desktop for the fast boot speeds and some primary software that benefits greatly from the SSD. But since the SSD is not big enough for all my games I have a 1 TB HDD for games and secondary software that don't need to be on my SSD. Further more I have a My book Live Duo with 2 x 2 TB HDD NAS in Raid 1. I use this NAS for my backups and media files. I chose for a NAS solution because I can access it from my PC but also my Raspberry Pi running XBMC or any of my other devices like my Android phone or tablet.

Currently I'm running an OCZ Vector solid state for my OS and the Adobe Suite, and a Seagate 1TB mechanical running at 7200rpm for my music and games and other miscellaneous programs. I chose this particular setup because it had great speeds for the budget of my build.

Hello!
I use an raid 0 configuration of 2 WD caviar black 1001 1TB. I chose this HDD drive because i appreciate WD and especially this one had double internal processor unit and was one of the fastest of its days. I think even for raid 0 WD is pretty trustable.

I am using a 3-years old 1TB WD 5400rpm hard drive which I took from my old Dell desktop. It's green color I believe.

I installed my windows 7 on a Samsung 840 Pro 128GB  (Sadly the actual is only 119.24GB just for fast booting.
I'm really short on budge right now and hope I could have another hard drive, so I could test all the RAID configuration. Right now, a SSD and a low RPM hard drive set up is just basic for me.

Have two hard drive at the moment, WD Black WD5001AALS-00L3B2 500GB as my boot drive, and Seagate ST3500418AS 500GB as my backup.

I've been reading a lot of reviews before I decided to get the WD Black, it is the fastest drive at the time of purchase, and it came with a 5 years warranty period while others only carry 3 at the time.

I recently built my computer and decided to go with a Samsung 840 PRO SSD and a Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD.
I decided to use that SSD because I wanted to take advantage of the faster OS load times so I dual boot Windows and Ubuntu off of it and the 5 year warranty reassures me (even if just a little) that my drive is reliable and won't fail so soon. I only keep programs and apps that I can easily replace on it, the rest go to the HDD.

I bought the Seagate drive because at the time (before Linus taught me!) I wasn't sure what the best WD drive would be for my use case and a relative had been using the brand for a long time. I also partitioned the drive to hold my ubuntu /home partition and a Windows data partition. In both cases that's where my documents, projects and Steam games are stored for higher reliability.
