WD Red 4TB GIVEAWAY!

LinusTech

I'm currently running 500GB Hitachi HDD (Hitachi HDS721050CLA362). It's predecessor - Seagate (can't remember exact model) died after 11 month - firmware failure. And Hitachi was recommended as more reliable hard drive by the seller at the store. Also I have a usb-hdd Verbatim 160GB (which is exactly WDC WD1600BEVS-00RST0), it was presented on my bd by a friend.

I have a 1tb samsung hard drive i use my server for backup but things are getting full a 4tb red would be nice to throw into the server and when i say throw i mean very very carefully putt it in a hot-swap bay .i run what i run because the samsung drive was super cheap and i still could barely afford it the server has 4 tb of multiple old hard drives in raid 5.

                                                                                                                                                                                    Thank You :)

Hai. I got a pretty simple harddrive setup but it works nicely for now.

I have a Kingston Hyper-X 120 GB SSD mainly for speed on my operating system and extra space. Another Kingston Hyper-X 240 GB SSD i use for steam / origin games and other programs i want to run fast. Last i have a 3 TB WD harddrive i use for simple storage and anything really.

I dont fully understand how raid works yet but im learning so I'll most likely get it working soon.

1. I am currenty working with a samsung 840 250gb SSD and a seagate 1tb 6gb/s 3.5 hd on my desktop. i went with the 250 gig ssd for the massive storage for all my programs and it really helps speed everything up. i love the way i can put so much more in so much less space when compared to a 3.5 hd. the 1tb hd is for data and it usually running full. I am about to put another 250 gig ssd in but it's going to feel like a waste since it will only be for data storage and not more programs. what makes it worse is that it still won't be enough for what i need (which is why I am entering in this contest). With the amount of data i run for programs on my computer (financial data, database storage, work files and emails as well as important personal documents and more), I am constantly filling up the hard drive space i have and I am constantly deleting data, that i have to find other ways to back up, just to make room for more data. If I had just one of these hard drives, I think I would be a lot closer to having my data needs met.

1. I am using a samsung 840 120 gb as a boot drive, because samsung is reputable for it's flash memory and linus likes it too :P, a seagate barracuda 7200rpm 2tb hdd, because seagate is a good company and it was also pretty cheap and also an external seagate goflex 1tb 7200rpm again from my good experience with seagate and because a portable hdd is always handy.

I'm currently running a 500GB HDD in my desktop, I don't bother backing it up because I only store OS, programs and games on it. I also have about 4TB in external drives which I hook up to my PC every time I want to store or backup anything (though the drives are pretty much 90% movies and TV shows).

I run this setup because when I got my PC I really didn't need anymore then 500GB of space and because it was fairly cheap (though after these last few humble bundles, I finally ran into a situation where I have more games then disk space). As for the externals, I tend to download movies and shows, watch them, then store them on those because even though I'm unlikely to watch it again, I like to have it in my "library" of movies.

1. I currently have 2 x 250GB Hard Drives and a 128GB SSD in my Desktop. The 2 x 250GB hard drives are from my old build, because I cannot afford to upgrade currently. The 128GB SSD is an OCZ Vertex 3 (I  know, it's bad) that I got on sale.

My current setup is using a 2TB WD Green hard drive, because I didn't have the money to spend on an expensive RAID setup when I built the computer.

I have 2x3TB in RAID1 on my NAS. I use 120GB SSD on my laptop. Before It has 2.5inch laptop HDD now I used it as external. I also have 500GB external that I use a lot before. In my desktop, I used a 500GB HDD as its primary drive (boot and storage). I have an 250GB and 40GB (10yrs old) HDDs lying around we used before as storage. We have tons of DVDs burned with important files and will later be transferred to the NAS. Lots of usb flash drive also. I need two more HDDs to populate my NAS, if I won the grand prize, I would probably build a custom NAS rig.

Pardon my English. Not my native language.

I run a 256GB Samsung 840 Pro because the 830 series is highly regarded for its performance and reliability.  I also run a 2TB Seagate because it's price to performance/size was very, very good.  92 bucks. ;)  The 2TB is used for games that are not intensive enough to warrant being installed on my SSD.  I also have a 3TB external Seagate drive that I used on my network for easy access to my downloads and music across all of my devices.

I alsow have an external 2tb Buffalo drive for all my photos and videos. I like to save all my personal data on a external drive so 2tb are perfect.

I use a 128GB OZC vector as a boot drive and a 3TB seagate as main storage. I usually just play games but I plan on making vids so the extra space and reliability would be awesome.

Hi,

My main drive is a 256 GB Samsung 840 Pro Series SSD. I put it in my MacBook Pro so I can be productive & run Photoshop & InDesign really quickly as I am a photographer and designer. Now why Samsung? Well I guess it is pretty self explanatory: they are the best SSD brand in the market today! 450MB read & 550 write, ridiculously fast speed.

I also happen to have a 500 GB Western Digital external hard drive with FireWire 800 ports for all my heavy files. That way, I can keep the optical drive of my laptop and play some DVD if I fancy to.

So far my storage setup consisted only of a 1TB 7200 rpm Seagate HDD. I bought this hard disk 3 years ago, when I built my (first) desktop and the reason for my choice was just.... money. I just didn't have much money, so I simply chose an HDD that was not to pricey.

Now that I can finally afford to upgrade my pc regularly I have purchased a 256 GB Samsung 840 Pro SSD. I have purchased it this month, so now I will install OS, programs and games I generally use on the SSD and use the HDD for storing data. I picked the 840 Pro because I think it is one of the best SSDs out in the market, both for performance and reliability, and 256 GB are enough for OS and applications.

My plan for the next 1-2 years is to use only SSDs in my rig, and have a NAS for storage and backup.

I believe I"ve done everything correctly.. on why I run my two Harddrives... The 80Gb Seagate came with the PC and the 2nd hardrive 160GB Samsung is one I pillaged out of a laptop that died. :)   Sadly my 80Gb is getting the SHORT Test Failure when I run my Dell pc diagnostics test. Which is telling me that it is dying.  But Hopefully with a chance like this I'll be able to get blessed through LInus and Western Digital and get one of these massive 4TB Raid setups.. I would definately run a RAID 0 configuration on this new build just to run all the SteamGames and keep my programs run on  the 500GB Passport I have coming.. I feel safer with my school documents, projects ,passwords, pics and music on a Drive that is not always connected to the internet. :)   I've lost data because of a corrupted flash drive before; so I know the pain and aggrevations of loosing important things in my life. Really sucks not being able to retreive memories and work. :(

I can't afford a SSD or a 1TB harddrive at the moment and a 4TB WD RED  would just blow me away with the space and speed of processing sidbits or info.   Whoever wins is going to love it.  Thank you Linus and WesterenDigital for the chance at something I could definately use for my desktop.

1. I am building a desktop right now, I want to have a VelociRaptor 250GB for screen capturing so it writes fast, and I am also having 2 120GB OCZ Agility 3 in RAID 0 for my OS and games. And finally a WD 1TB Caviar Black for video editing and what not. It'd be great to have a WD Caviar Red in this build to store some left over videos and other stuff.

A 4TB Red wouldn't be fast, the are 5,400RPM. A fast one would be +7,200RPM.
