I'm running a Samsung 640gb Sata 2 as my boot drive and a Toshiba 1tb for my data. I didn't upgraded to an ssd, because i don't trust them and i have wol configured so boot time doesn't matter for me.

I run 2 SSD's in my desktop. Essentially these are just two boot drives. My first SSD was a Samsung 840 120gb and I just recently picked up a Samsung 840 Pro 128gbs. I went with the Pro series the second time because it has a 5 year warranty and faster read/write speeds compared to the regular 840. I wanted SSD's because they are the fastest when it comes to booting applications and OS. I was planning on picking up a mass storage hdd 1tb-2tb during black friday hoping that a local retailer or a online retail will have some on sale. When I do that I would run both my SSD's in Raid 0 and have my mass storage hdd being backed up every other day.

Dear Linus,

I use the Samsung 840 Pro Series 128GB for my boot drive and store some games on there too. Also, I use a Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB for some more of my games, music, movies and documents. I have the Samsung 840 Pro Series because it's very fast and efficient. People also gave it very high ratings. I got the Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB because it got very nice reviews, it has a big capacities and it's fast for a hard drive. Thank you!

OCZ Vertex 4 120GB for OS since i don't need to get coffee when i use my personal computer.
After 2 RMA's of my OCZ Vertex 2 ssd i got this Vertex 4 from OCZ. The Vertex 2 was at the time of buying the king of SSD's.

For Games and Apps WD 1TB Velociraptor since i hate loading times and using SSD is way to expensive.
The Velociraptor is the best option if you want speed but not SSD prices.

And a WD Mybook 3TB to backup up everything "Better safe than sorry" and uses USB 3.0 thus fast backup and i have a good experience with WD USB drives since my WD My Passport Essential 500GB still works after 4 years.

My DS410 uses 4 Hitachi Deskstar 2TB since they were the best option at the time with compatability, speed and price.

When I was choosing parts for my current system, I was on a bit of a budget, so inside I only have a 750gb 7200 rpm HDD. I soon found that this wasn't nearly enough for my 50+ game Steam library and everything else I needed so I bought a Seagate 2tb external hard drive soon after to store most of my games and extraneous programs/data.

1.After losing a hdd in my desktop I now use an external hdd to backup precious photos, although I'd love something more automated.

Crucial M4 - Best price/performance ratio at that time

Western Digital Green 3TB. Replacement for the Western Digital Black 2TB that died (and I couldn't RMA because of sensitive data on it, and no way to run DBAN on it. $300 wasted). - Because it's for data, and I like greens.

Samsung HD322GJ - Cheapest drive I could find on the store from which I bought the parts for the computer.

Ramdisk - Cache for Firefox and Chrome.

SSD used for OS and critical programs, WD Green used for data (with another wd green in an external enclosure, connected once a week for backup). Samsung used for games, Steam and Ramdisk image.

1. I have a 120GB Intel SSD and a 2TB Seagate drive for storage. I chose this configuration because I love the speed of SSDs and I also like to have a lot of storage for movies and games. I chose the 2TB Seagate drive because it was pretty cheap at the time (almost as cheap as some 1TB drives) so why not.

1. I have WD 500GB black hdd in my old laptop and I had an external USB2 2.5 inch WD 250GB Blue hdd. I have been using this setup for many years. >500GB SSDs were and are still quite expensive for me to buy.
I'm using this setup because I need all my data with me. Plus home (wifi) network was not up to date at that time. I used to use my 16GB USB2 flash drive alot. Now my home network has been updated and NAS has come into my mind for me to implement it. Would love to have a NAS, but I have got other priorities. Unfortunately the external housing broke so I am leaving the hdd in my brother's computer for the moment. His own hdd is failling too.

So right now it is just 500GB in my old laptop plus my 16GB USB2 flash drive.

1. I am running a 256GB Vertex 4 for my boot drive, programs and games I'm currently playing, I got a Vertex 4 because at the time it was one of the best on the market (then came along Vector >_< ). I am using a 1TB WD Black Cavier for my main storage, including games and my main user files. I'm not currently backing up my data as I don't want to buy an external drive, I've already had an important file go corrupt so I must be dumb to buy a back up disk ;) oh well! If I win the drives I think I'll just have to buy a NAS as I need 'dem braggin rights :D! Also, if in 20 or so years time I've still got it, I would try to remember to post a picture!

I only run a 320GB 7200 RPM Western Digital Blue. My old 1TB black died and was no longer under warranty so I had to drop back to this old drive a few months ago. The Blue is a great drive but due to its small size its impossible to fit my steam library unto it :P . I plan to purchase an SSD as a boot drive but for the time being I'm stuck with only this 320GB.

1. On my main desktop I've got an OCZ Vector 256GB for the boot drive and primary storage. Then a 128GB Crucial C300 RealSSD (which is regarded as the predecessor to the M4) for my secondary storage which I use for things like games and lesser stuff which has in fact lasted me over 4 or 5 years!

Lastly I use a 1tb Caviar Black for daily full image backups, semi-hourly incremental backups of certain files and folders and other mass storage.

With the C300 I was a fairly early adopter of SSD and I used that together with the 1tb drive as data drive originally. This because I found it an attractive configuration and SSD's were much faster.

I do photography as a hobby and use programs like Lightroom and Photoshop and thus got the Vector not too long ago because I felt like 128GB wasn't enough for me, my entire photo library is at about 35 GB currently. I do benefit from the much higher write speeds compared to most other SSD models due to importing working with photos a lot, importing usually a few gigabytes worth of RAW format photos at a time. My photos, amongst other things, is also stored in Dropbox, which I pay yearly for their 100 GB plan, as I find it much more seamless and useful than external drives and other portable media when on the go. When I'm going between the laptop and desktop for example it just syncs automatically rather than having to manually attach slow external media and manually drop and retrieve files. It's also one thing less to carry around.

On the laptop I've gotten from my school I use the same 320 GB hard drive and all that my school put in it.

The HTPC I have in the TV room runs on my older WD Caviar Black, I believe it's at 500GB which I feel is plenty as it's mostly used for playing back DVD's rather than anything else I do though have about 100GB or so worth of movies on the drive. I am planning to put in an SSD in it at some point to silence it entirely.

I would also like to get myself a NAS and put in some drives in RAID1 or RAID5. Then everything could be stored in one place that is accessible from anywhere in the house and some WD reds would be perfect for this.

Bonus entires: (will be updated in a moment)

Linus described my storage setup exactly in the giveaway video. I have a Kingston 60GB SSD because it was the cheapest one I could get my hands on. I was really strapped for cash when I built my PC but I managed to get an 800GB WD Caviar Green drive off my friend for around $20. It is big enough for all my mass storage and it was cheap, so no complaints from me. I want to get an external hard drive to backups onto, but at the moment I don't have enough cash.

I run the 1TB HDD that came in my laptop because it's pretty cheap and i cant afford to buy an SSD right now. I also have an external 250Gb Hard Drive that I use for backing up some of my more important files and my iTunes library.

I have a 320gb HDD, and that's about it, I have around 90gb left on it, and it's closing fast. I chose this configuration because it was all I could afford at the time, and eventually I was planning on upgrading to a terabyte or two that would suffice for another 6 months or so.

Hey Linus,

Thanks for the chance to win!

I have the follow set up in my desktop:

1x 256gb Samsung 840 PRO for my boot, along with commonly played games. (roughly 1 1/2 years old)

2x 500gb Western Digital Green HDD's in Raid 0 for a 1TB storage. ( Bought on newegg on August 30, 2008 for $239.99)  So they're really old... and slow.)

My 840 pro was a used ssd I bought off of amazon. The price was right, and it's all I could afford. And being my first and only SSD's... I deperately needed one.  As for my 2x 500gb.  They actually came from an external hard drive. When I was in the navy, my dad bought me a 1TB external Western Digital MyBook.  You had the options of a raid 0 or a raid 1 in the enclosure.  I needed more storage in my desktop, so I opened it up and put it in.

I'm trying to save up money to upgrade my graphics from a GTX 550 ti 1gb, so I can't really afford any nice and larger/newer hard drives.

I have a Plextor 120GB SSD, a 2TB Seagate Hard Drive and a WD 500GB External Hard Drive.

I use this storage configuration because it gives the speed for loading times I want for my games and OS from my SSD, have enough storage from my Seagate Hard Drive and have a External Hard Drive to send files to other computers in my home.

I just literally did my first build build yesterday and i used a 500gb seagate barracuda because it has a decent amount of storage and it was cheap so it fitted into my tight budget, also my friend used it for his build as well so i copied him since he knew more about tech then i do. The barracuda has good RPM so it seemed like the best choice for the price.I have no idea what raid its in.....

My current storage config:

60 gb adata ssd for boot and some apps - old and slow, but twice as fast as a mech HD

3 500 gb drives (old, cheap and failing) for data and large games/apps

1 tb wd passport for backups

I want to put the 1 tb on my new (cheap) d-link dir-645 router as streamable video storage.

I really want the WD Red to give me more _reliable_ space and to back up the old 500gb drives.

When I built my PC, I had a budget I had to follow. So I decided to get myself a Seagate Barracuda with a 1TB storage capacity thinking it would be enough.

The Seagate Barracuda has a very good price/performance ratio, and that was the reason I got one. It have been very stable and the boot time isn't terrible, but I might just get myself a SSD in the future though.. Unfortunately I gravely underestimated how much I actually store on my PC, and because of the fact that I record a lot of gameplay, my HDD is almost full. So it's about time to buy myself another HDD.

I hope that the winners of these drives will truly enjoy them, good luck everyone!

Entry 1: One 1TB WD Blue HDD.(My Storage setup) I got this on a very tight budget so couldn't go further do I have space for 5 storage drives. My friend recently found a computer in the trash of the house he moved into and It works perfectly just that there is no HD everything else is good. It was cheap as 50 dollars.
