[Important notice!] EKWB to recall all EK-XLC Predator 240 and 360 AIO watercoolers

Due to a leak issue that has turned out to be more severe and wide-spread than originally suspected, EKWB is recalling all revision 1.0 EK-XLC Predator 240 and 360 AIO watercoolers and swapping them for the new Rev1.1 models.

All Revision 1.0 units produced from October 2015 until end of December 2015 are potentially affected by the risk of leakage and in order to prevent any computer component damage, the units need to be replaced. The leakage may occur between copper cold plate and bracket on the water block after it is heated up and pressure rises. Current statistics show that 1 out of 10 units leaks.

We are warning all customers of EK XLC-Predator units to discontinue use of cooling device and contact EKWB for replacement unit or refund.EKWB is taking full responsibility for this issue and will be:

• Replacing or refunding all returned units to the customers
• Refunding the customer any computer component damage created by a leakage

 

A full refund is available for customers that purchased the unit directly from EKWB.

Was about rant on them and then saw the last thing about replacing stuff its broken.. which was going to be my rant.. Good job EK you just saved yourself a lot of heat from a lot of people. Glad they decided to do that replacement on the parts. If they didnt people wouldnt be to happy about one of the best watercooling companies going "oops my bad" and breaking there stuff.

Well that's not good, at least they're doing a full refund and covering the cost of damaged components, a lot of companies wouldn't be this nice.

Hmm I was led to believe this affected units made before November (assuming this is the same o ring issue on the block). Edit: should've read the release first.

I wonder if any standalone mx blocks or kits are compromised. I'm not really worried about my mx block since it is from before September (from L120 2.0 kit) but still

I'm very impressed with EK, and a concerned at how much this could cost them.

 

The tier of product that the Predator is almost insures that the end user has a pretty high end rig, and a leak could easily damage RAM, Motherboard, CPU, and GPU (or 2), bring the total cost of an bad Predator to well over $1000. Amazing to see EK standing behind their product, but I'm hoping for their sake that there weren't too many catastrophic leaks.

This effected me a about a month ago. My fitting was not on all the way, and I had a faulty pump I think. Thankfully only my MoBo got wet and thus had to RMA it. Good on Ek for this.

No one except corsair does, and corsair will only give you 50% of market value (which is at least better than nothing.

This is the exact reason why im still running with air, i dont change hardware that often, mostly since i dont make a whole lot of money due to illness. Having my hardware destroyed by a leak would be a pretty damn big loss, i mean its a loss for anyone, but i have heard people talking about their water cooled setup like "damn thing leaked, just ordered a new 980 ti and 5960X, oh well shit happens".

 

Then again when it comes to AIO vs my NH-D14 there is barely any difference, the only downside in my opinion is the damn size of high end air coolers.

Not going to like trying to get that thing out of my case. Atlease EK let me know their was an issue unlike some other companies. Not sure if I should get a replacement or get the new Swiftech H220-x2.

 

I know theirs been reports that the new version is also plagued with this issue.
