Japanese company announced 2.5" Non-NVME 13TB and 10TB SATA SSD drives (updated)

snowComet

Considering I've only use 91 GB of my current HDD, I wouldn't want one of these.

Sorry, cost wise it doesn't make any sense to become an early adopter.

I think you misunderstood, it's for enterprise servers, most likely. No individual will buy this unless they have heaps of spare money, in which case who cares... It's their money.

Your statement was pretty vague. In your post, you didn't mention anything regarding enterprise.

I do as well, looks rugged, but clean. Would love to see what it looks like on top of the drive.

Sorry, but when my mind sees server it just automatically thinks business grade hardware is involved. Which in most cases is correct.

I thought normal SSDs had an idle power consumption of, like .5W and a load of 1.5W or something. Higher-end drives, sure, but those are built for desktops. The more power-sippy ones are more appropriate for something like a laptop. Which is why no-one ever bought an Intel SSD for theirs.

My dad just dropped a 256GB Intel 530 into his laptop (Dell Latitude Ivy Bridge) to replace the HDD. Mind you it was originally bought for another desktop in the house, but still.

Lol. Who in their right mind would purchase something that will end up costing as much as a new rig.

inb4 linus gets 10 of these and put them in that new silverstone ssd case.

At that form factor you may as well make it 3.5". And I totally would buy 3.5" SSDs, as they'd fit in my sled-less backplane.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

I'd buy 2 for my bluray collection.

I know one of my mates would buy these at this price without thinking twice

I dunno, Ive seen some pretty crazy expensive water cooling setups.

Then you have the people who spend $1,000 on a monitor.

Mind if I screenshot this, so in ~10 years I'll find it and start laughing?

I did that with someone claiming that +100GB HDDs were crazy and that you would never need that much storage. I wonder whatever happened to that guy.

I know both of you are talking in the time periods terms but it's still fun to read the past and their claims of what nobody would need.

well, a certain influential person once said we'd never need more than 32MB ram. but at this time there is no single place where it makes sense to have 13TB in a single package that does not fit in a single tray (because it'd be a HUGE deal for laptops, but its thicker than most laptops)

So much for seagate saying ssds won't overtake hdds in terms of capaciry anytime soon...

Only 3 years of warranty?! Hahaha haha ha aa... no thanks

It's not that bad, it all depends on what you'll use it for. I wouldn't put this in a nas, but then I wouldn't put any ssd in a nas

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

Other than speed what benifits do ssd's have over hard drives in terms of longer term data storage. Isnt harder to get the data off of a dead ssd compared to a hard drive?
