it's possible AMD dropped support for Coreboot in upcoming Zen CPUs

zMeul

if you actually believe that your gov have that power, then you live in the US.

You see, EU is too much "hippies" and "commies" to play the same tune.

US tried to spy on germany, got busted, got into serious political shit for it.

US tried to spy on france, got busted, got into serious political shit for it.

end result?

EU is a lot colder towards the US now. Not only due to the espionage, but due to multiple cases of inhumane actions both domestic and abroad. Such as the hospital bombing in Syria or whatever.

That's all well and good, but remember that this particular spyware is nearly impossible to detect.

who cares, i'm outside their juristiction and in my country, we wont ever extradite anyone to the US. BECAUSE MY COUNTRY CONSIDERS THE US PRISON SYSTEMS LIVING CONDITIONS TO BE BELOW HUMANITARIAN STANDARDS.

It's even easier for them to spy on foreigners and extraordinary rendition is a thing.

Also, the amount of times the NSA has been caught with their fingers in the cookie jar doesn't exactly make them appear at all competent. They probably couldn't identify a terrorist plot if it were being planned in the foyer of their headquarters.

This has gotten so far off topic it's ridiculous.

It's not rumored that they might not implement it. It's not rumored *anything*. AMD simply hasn't commented or confirmed the feature one way or the other.

There is still so much we don't know about Zen, that we simply don't have any details yet.

This was on the forums not too long ago if I remember correctly. Only thing you can do about it is either never update your BIOS (assuming that it wasn't infected during manufacturing) or use something where you can see and alter the code, like CoreBoot

Not gonna help if you're using a computer to compile it. They could just Ken Thompson coreboot.

A real tin foil hatter would have to implement it bit by bit, by hand.

Interestingly, the date of the earliest reference to the KT attack means that if you want hardware that can't have a government controlled KT attacking bios, you have to go back to a certain year.

I think this one is out of AMDs hands, I seriously doubt the various hardware partners who are making the motherboards would be interested in ditching UEFI in favour of Coreboot for Zen.

Its a huge amount of work for them to abandon UEFI, Coreboot requires a partial rewrite in order for it to work with every new chipset where as UEFI is here, established and working right now. Plus Coreboot has very little to offer in terms of hardware customisation, if Zen were to have onboard GPUs for example, Coreboot would have no way of disabling it for users with discrete graphics cards, the same applies to sound and NICs. Lastly what about overclocking?

In a home environment that contains PC enthusiasts and upgradable systems Coreboot just doesn't make sense.

The beurocratic bullshit they gotta fight their way through to get to you in EU is mind boggling.

Now, if they want to arrest me for downlading furry midget porn and trolling kids in CS:GO and DOTA2. So be it.

The US is pretty good at getting people from one spot to another spot without anyone noticing. Especially when that second spot is US soil.
