Swapped out the sandwich case of my UT47.2 for an aluminum Keyhive case. Picked up a Drop Shift a week ago. They only had fully assembled ones, so I picked Halo Clears. Then swapped those out for lubed, filmed Ink Blacks.

XD84 Pro PCB, KPRepublic Anodized Aluminum w/ diffused Acrylic back, and the XD24 Cospad (same case), capped with MaxKeys B&W SA Doubleshot ABS keycaps. Big plans for this case, going for a full repaint (and the grey does not match anyway). 

 

 

Loving SA profile caps.

 

 

Learned with this build how much of a difference stabs can make, went with Everglides (lubed w/ TriboSys 3204) and it is an immediately noticeable difference vs GMK or Cherry stabs, even after snipping and lubing.

Ultrasonic cleaner. Caps are OG WoB from a G80-11900.

Yes and yes. Depends on what you're cleaning but for most keyboard stuff it's very good.

 

Also good for fountain pens lol, I use mine for that too.

Cool, cool. Are there things you can't put in it? Like that may fracture due to resonance?

Not that I know of. In my experience you have to be careful about the cleaning agent or whatever you put in. IPA can create flammable fumes and dissolve stuff, for example.

 

 

It's possible it could damage some stuff but I think I can fairly confidently say that all keyboard stuff would be fine.

The long wait is over! The GMK Red Samurai keycaps for my KBD67v2 arrived today, and I am really digging them! Only took Canada Post an extra 6 weeks haha, but better late than never.

What is the closest switch equivalent (or heavier) to Cherry MX Tactile Grey? I already own Brown, Blue, Clear, and Green boards, but the Grey hits the sweet spot for me.

My daily driver (Varmilo VA87M with aluminum case) is still going strong after 6 years, but given Grey and their rarity, I'd like to be prepared with a backup option should something ever happen to their availability from MK (they're out of stock).

 

I'm not averse to similar weight in a clicky switch (Green and their equivalents), but I want heavy and tactile, and just don't know all the newer options. Not even sure they exist given how niche such heavy switches would be.

I'd just get some nice modern tactiles and swap heavy springs in.

If you like tactile switches the Zealios V2 will certainly do the trick. They are the best tactile switch I have used, but I have the 65g version. They feel smooth (not scratchy) and yet the tactile bump is very pronounced, right at the mid-point of the keystroke, even un-lubed they are relatively quiet. They come in a 78g version which would be heavier. https://zealpc.net/products/zealio?variant=14276634438

 

The Kailh Box Heavy Burnt Orange is also quite nice if you want a heavy switch. They still have a tactile bump, although it comes right at the top so it does no feel as pronounced vs the Zealios V2, but with a heavier spring.
