I Spent a couple hours last Night going over the option of getting my Dad an Nvidia Shield TV to help him cut the cable. Which he is admittedly tired of.
I realize that this goes above the $300 price limit sightly. But for the ease of connecting and how user friendly i anticipate it will be for my very NOT tech savy Father, it seems like a great option. Above all that it looks modern and professional, something you'd like to display by the TV instead of shoving in a component cupboard.

With Kodi and Netflix, he will have a host of streaming options, and it is unlikely he will ever complain to me again that Netflix just isn't cutting it these days :)

I wanted to build a PC for my Grandfather for a while now, he used to be a Techie but isnt anymore. I plan to build  a PC for his office desk with him.

So my dad's computer... Its so bad he's still rockin' a Q6600 8gb 600Mhz DDR2 RAM, and the newest thing he has (Which I'm quite surprised he has) is a Nvidia GTX 560. Unfortunately, theirs recently become a bunch of clutter on his old 160 maxter hard drive (No surprise their) worst thing is, is as they get more full the computer starts getting slower and slower. His computer can't run for a day straight without bluescreening once, its not a driver issue, its the fact that his computer sucks... Anyways I think an SSD could speed up the boot time of his PC which right now takes about a minute and a half. Thats why I would like to gift my dad a Samsung 850 EVO 500gb SSD

Hi i would give my grandpa a new computer not the best but this would be a huge upgrade from the one he has now.

´The computer he has now is the old beige cases and sucky graphics card and processor

he also uses Windows xp

we upgraded his monitor last christmas and i am surprised that his computer can even power it.

My grandma used to use her old laptop that nativley ran windows vista for everything. Now she can't even play her facebook games cause the laptop is too slow.

 

Her fix? download malware that promises to make her computer faster. Please giver an ssd so that she is no longer tempted to download such crap, or so i don't spend an hour removing all of it.

I would buy for my mother a better monitor to replace her old ugly CRT one that she still has in her bedroom. I would choose the IPS AOC Q2963PM 29-inch panel as it at the 300$ price margin and it is a good IPS panel (my mother won't need the extra response time of the TN panels) with more than Full HD resolution.

You won't believe how many times I get asked by my mom why her laptop takes so long to start up. She has a pretty good thinkpad with an i7 but it only has a standard HDD so I really hope to get a Samsung SSD for her so that she will understand how I can start my rig up in under 5 seconds xD

My parents are at least tech savvy enough to open an app on their Iphone. Sonos makes it so easy that even with me halfway across the USA, they'll be able to get the Sonos system up and running and keep it running in the long haul...unlike when my brother tried to set up a wifi-network printer...

I'd probably give my parents a WD 4tb My Cloud Personal Network. All the photos and movies they have, and more by the day, they need to have a safe place to store and access all of those precious memories!

I got into tech early on because my dad is a computer scientist (mainly a Java developer). So he used to bring home all of the wackiest and coolest new tech items. One Christmas me and my brothers asked for a Nintendo or playstation, instead however we got a Sega Dreamcast and honestly that was the coolest thing ever. Another year he bought us a new gaming pc for me and my brothers and was going on and on about the 8800 graphics card inside and the dual core it had. However, lately he just doesn't care anymore which is understandable since he doesn't game or do anything highly intensive besides programming server applications on his thinkpad. He does however listen to music, he still uses these black plastic in ear headphones and refuses to get better ones because he doesn't want to spend the money when these work even though one of them is dead. So I think a new pair of headphones would be awesome for the guy who once bought a nerf controller for my ps2... yes that was a real thing.

Definately the Asus ZenPad S 8.0 (Z580CA).

My mom really likes to surf around, watch youtube and play ruzzle on her archos tablet, though it is becomming very slow.

I can't bare using the machine, helping my mom when shes struggling because it is way to slow.

I want to give my dad a ASUS VS247H-P 23.6" Full HD 1920x1080 2ms HDMI DVI-D VGA Back-lit LED Monitor because he is always working on the computer and the old monitor is in really really bad shape. It randomly starts blinking and the colours are weird. I just want to get him this new monitor so his eyes doesn`t get so tired with that old scrappy monitor.

Hey, so my parents are not the most tech savy  people, they have a hard time figuring out the controller for the tv sometimes, but a lot of it has to do with the fact they don't understand/can't read english. Which leads to my gift, the SunTV, which is a streaming device that streams channels from China directly. We're paying quite a bit for cable and we're only getting two channels with actually shows they can watch, so with this box, they will have an expansive library of things to watch instead! I would get a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ200 digital camera for my dad.

 

He has an old Lumix 5MP camera which has served great all these years. He was thinking of buying a CyberShot because it had 16.0 mega-pixels. I told him to wait until I found something reasonable. He needs a good camera that can just shoot sharp photos and videos as he travels a lot.

 

I chose this camera because his old one was really well built. It survived multiple drops and still works. I trust Panasonic's newer cameras do the same.

I want to get this for my little brother, he's 8. I gave him a 360 awhile ago but it got the rrod and i couldn't get a new one at the time. I felt really bad cause he got so excited and it broke like a few weeks later :( So i thought it would be nice to get him a new one. I've been trying to save up but this would be amazing and help a lot if i happen to get picked :) Thank you LMG!!

I'd like to get my mom an Amazon Fire TV  since now I got on board the Netflix train and it make it easier for her to have this plugged in than my old PS3 which she has no clue on how to use it plus it's bulky.

So my parents are musicians and are very passionate.They should not be using my free cellphone earbuds to listen to recorded samples,it breaks my heart and triggers my ocd.I don't know much about recording but I heard these were good.

My sister always bought them cool stuff for Christmas  and I never did.

I want to make them happy alteast for Christmas :)
