Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

So the gift I'd like to get my mother is this 32 inch Samsung smart tv. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN32J5205-32-Inch-1080p-Smart/dp/B00U9U8RZQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1449765933&sr=1-2&keywords=smart+tv&refinements=p_36%3A-30000

The reason is quite simple actually. My mother enjoys watching Netflix and Youtube. However, She's still on an old Sony CRT screen. Granted it works fine but it just doesn't keep up with the times. It's not even HD. I'm sure she would enjoy this because while she does know how to use a computer and get on netflix and youtube, it's still not as comfortable as just sitting down on the couch or laying down while watching it it in your living room.

I wish good luck to all the contestants and Merry Christmas to all!

I would give my mother a Moto G Samrtphone, as her current divice (ZTE Skate under resellers branding) is running Android 2.2 and is so filled up with bloatware from the manufacture that she can't install any apps because the junk takes all the 100 MB of internal storrage.

I would get my mother a new laptop. Right now all she has is my sister's HP Pavilion g6 something from 2011 that has been so infested with adware and bloatware and useless "computer cleansing" programs that it takes literally 10 minutes from power on to the point where the desktop is loaded and becomes usable. I have almost no laptop purchasing experience beyond my budget college laptop, and I don't know what to buy for her.

I gave her my school-issued chromebook to use to see if she could work with ChromeOS, and she can't. Right now she's got 4 weeks of bed-rest and has had nothing but her iPhone 4 to make all the christmas gift orders. She can't even watch her favorite shows.

I am looking at getting her a laptop with at least 64 GB of storage, but I'm better at naming stars than I am at shopping for laptops.

something like

OR

I would get my sister a working computer so she can run Photoshop for her photography class. She stays after school using computers sometimes upwards of 3 hours because there aren't any available computers that have the power necessary to run it in any decent manner. I am getting a computer upgrade for Christmas, so I was thinking about using my old parts (i3 2100, Radeon 6790HD sapphire pro, 4 GB RAM) to make her a computer that she can do her schoolwork and such on, but the motherboard is trash! It's got a terrible boot loop that makes the computer virtually unusable, so I would get a new motherboard so she can have a moderately reliable computer that can do photoshop for her class. http://www.amazon.com/LGA1155-CrossFireX-Motherboard-Z77-EXTREME4/dp/B007KTY4A6/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449766435&sr=1-4&keywords=LGA+1155+motherboard

CPU: i7-7700K | GPU: ASUS RTX 2080 Super | RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance | Motherboard: MSI M5 Gaming | SSDs: 1TB Samsung 970 Evo + 1TB Samsung 850 Evo + 120GB Kingston SSDNow + 500GB SK hynix SL308 500GB  | HDD: WD Caviar Blue 1 TB

My dad usually on his free time likes to plug in his laptop to his flat screen TV and sits on his couch while streaming Netflix or surfing the web. He usually plugs in his old wireless Logitech mouse and keyboard (the battery usually last less than a month) to navigate around.

I think he would love it, if i gave him an Intel computer stick with a Wireless Keyboard that has a built in Touchpad like this one :

Cheers to Linus and the whole LMG crew and Merry Christmas!  :D

I would like to get the Google OnHub router for my grandparents. They are paying for 15Mbps but on WiFi they only get 0.5Mbps because their router is so crappy.

Google OnHub Router for my dad. We still have the stock and gets very slow speeds even with an extender.

Everyone is happy when he listens to some great music on great headphones like the http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-598-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B0126HISOO/ref=sr_1_4?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1449766400&sr=1-4&keywords=sennheiser+headphones

The SE-version is even better, because you do not think "Uäääh. He gave me poo as a present".

And my mom still uses the headphones, that came with his Galaxy S2, to listen to music. So those will make her feel like in paradise.

So my parents used to be tech savvy like yours Linus but the problem is they are still attempting to stay tech savvy but are failing pretty hard. They seem to always be second generation on everything - my dad just got an LG G2, my mom just got a laptop to replace her Pentium 4 desktop, they just got a 1080p HD TV but still don't have HD cable, and they finally just got a router that has a signal strong enough to spread through my whole house (which isn't big).

A few years ago they got rid of this audio tower that they used to have. It included an amp, cassette player, cd player and turn table that connected to speakers all throughout my house! Cool right? Well the thing was massive. All of the components together were about 5 feet tall stacked and weighed like 500 pounds (I would know because I had to take them to the dump).

Now, my parents are left with useless speakers around my house, no amp to drive them, and no whole house audio. They could just take them down, and they are thinking about it, but I think it would be really cool to bring the system back to life. Also, my father also really loves using Pandora or Spotify on his phone connected to two little tiny Bluetooth speakers. If he had a new amp that could drive the speakers with Bluetooth built in, it would make him really happy!

This is why I would get my father a new amp and an 8 channel speaker selector so that he can add as many speakers as he wants.

Amp - http://www.amazon.com/Insignia--200W-2-0-Ch-Stereo-Receiver/dp/B00N6DZYXQ/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1449766120&sr=8-12&keywords=home+stereo+amplifier+bluetooth

Speaker Selector - http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PSS8-8-Channel-Speaker-Selector/dp/B0013CC3O0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1449766407&sr=8-3&keywords=speaker+selector+8+zone

The XboxOne

I want it for my brother. He lives in Germany and I live in Bulgaria. I want it for him because he likes games as much as I do, but for some reason he likes consoles better than PC. He especially likes the Xbox, but has the Xbox 360. I just want to give him the newer one.

CPU: Ryzen 5 2600, MOBO: MSI Tomahawk B450, RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 3000 (2x8 GB), GPU: MSI RTX 2080 Gaming-X Trio, CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-U12S, PSU: Corsair RM 650, HDD: WD Blue 1TB, SSD: Samsung 860 ECO 500GB, CASE: Fractal Design Meshify C

My dad has always been anti-technology, and only recently has he begun embracing it. While he isn't starting a Vlog channel anytime soon, he does use the internet often for research, browsing Craigslist and eBay, and so-forth. Most of what he does is basic internet browsing. That's why I'd want to get him an HP Chromebook 14. It would suit his needs perfectly, the screen size is perfect, and it does everything he'd need it to do, and nothing more. It would honestly be perfect!

I'd get my mom a Chromebook as well, my dad and I are fairly tech savy though.

She still uses a reasonably old Dell laptop, on which she only uses for Facebook and email.

It would be a great, fast, lightweight solution

Hello LTT crew,

Firstly, i want to say this is an amazing thing you are doing for the community. And for the reason of this topic ill get onto it.

The person i would buy the gift for is my mother. When i was little she was the one that got me into computers and tech in general, at the time she knew a lot about tech.  I remember when she came home with the brand new PC game "Diablo" i was floored, it was the most amazing thing i had seen on a computer. Now many years later she isn't very tech savvy, she doesn't even use computers! She does however read a ton of books, which there is nothing wrong with a good hardcover book. But when she travels She lugs around 5 to 10 books and it takes up too much room, not to mention the weight. So i thought about looking into a kindle fire for her to read her books and that idea was sounds. Then i thought maybe i can take this idea a little further and get her a tablet, thinking maybe this can get her back into tech, and maybe i can get her back to computers. Now i don't know too much about tablets so i kinda just went to amazon and looked at top rated ones so if there is a better one i wouldn't mind a little bit of info regardless of if i win or not.

So this is the one i came up with the Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 all in all it looks like a good device and should be what im looking for, for her. Now i posted this because its part of the rules but if there is one that you feel is better wither its cheaper or not, by all means get that, as i'm lost when it comes to tablets.

In short.

Recipient: My Mother.

Why: As above.

Anyways thanks again for the chance and good luck to everyone.

Thanks for your time.

Mike.

I recently built my cousin a gaming computer for Christmas which is the only thing he ever wanted and its going to be his first computer (even though he is 18 years old)! I forgot to set aside some money for a monitor for him though and being out of a job (and only 19 years old myself) I don't have the money to get him a monitor so he can utilize the pc i built. He really wants to get interested in tech like I am but lacks the resources to do so and I hope this pc can help him not just with gaming.

Item: Asus MX239H 23"    184$

Thanks for this opportunity :)

I want to get my older cousin Kelly an amazon fire tablet. She has been giving me Christmas gifts since I was 5 and I want to give her a gift to thank her for everything she has done for me. But, after I buy gifts for my immediate family I won't have enough for a nice gift for her.

Hey, first off, love the thought given to the audience.

So I would really like to get some Philips hue bulbs at our place and it would be a really cool gift to my parents before i head off to uni next year...

I don't have a particularly profound reason but hey, anything for the love of tech..

Okay so here's the link : http://www.amazon.com/Philips-426353-Personal-Wireless-Lighting/dp/B00A4EUUO8/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1449767679&sr=8-6&keywords=philips+hue+starter+kit

My family has had bad luck with computers crashing, and my mom (who takes 100s of family pictures) has lost alot of them. I have helped this by trying to recover some old ones from a laptop. However I think she needs a better solution. I want to get my mom the WD 6 TB My Cloud, so she can have room for every precious family pictures, videos and even room for music and doccuments. This would really be an awesome christmas gift for me to give her and would make her so happy.
