Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

I would get my parents a Logitech Harmony Ultimate, since they are using about 5 remotes, and just as Linus said in the video, you can't help them via the phone.

Also, the cabinets have to stay open in order for the IR to get to the setop box, which is a pain since I have hidden al the cables to make it look nice.

The Logitech harmony ultimate would replace all those other remotes, and the included hub will fix the IR issues.

Thanks LTT!

My dad can't get around anymore (arthritis, degenerative back muscles).  All I can do for him is give him a tablet to keep learning stuff from the web.  Did that 3 years ago and since it has been, what else can I get him? He doesn't do anything since he cant move.  He has taken to pictures to document his life so he can remember things but his ipad is too heavy to lift to get good shots.  It frustrates him since he cant take the pictures he wants to.

I want to get him an eyefi sd card ($79.95):

http://www.amazon.com/Eyefi-Mobi-32GB-WiFi-Cloud/dp/B00TKFEPHA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449758017&sr=8-1&keywords=eyefi+wifi+sd+card+pro

A mirrorless camera for decent quality photos without the weight and bulk of a dslr ($208.79):

http://www.amazon.com/SASECWB1100BPB-Samsung-WB1100F-Megapixel-Compact/dp/B00PV0NM9K/ref=sr_1_12?s=photo&ie=UTF8&qid=1449758901&sr=1-12&refinements=p_n_condition-type%3A2224371011%2Cp_36%3A-22005

This way he can take good pictures and have them on his ipad for easy viewing plus its a new toy he can actually enjoy.  Appreciate any help Linus group!  It didnt say in the rules if the gift was kind of two part :\

Just subscribed to the YouTube channel about a month ago.  Great content indeed.

My dad loves technology, but since retiring he has been somewhat out of the loop and I get the sense that he misses it.  I'm going with the Insteon 2522-242 Assurance home automation kit (http://www.smarthome.com/insteon-2522-242-assurance-kit.html).  It's a starter kit for $199 that comes with what he needs to get up and running to dim some lights and a few security sensors.  I think it will be enough give him that sense of being in the know but also straight forward enough that he'll be able to tackle it no problem.

Bonus: I'm also getting them a ChromeCast to eliminate the HDMI cable running from the laptop at the couch to the tv.

My wife is a kindergarten teacher at a public school and they encourage her to interact with parents daily.
Parents are encouraged to call in to see how their kids are doing and she must call at least 2 parents a day.
She constantly gets phone calls and text from parents while she is in school,
so it's a hassle for here to reach in her pocket or go through her purse to find the phone to see who has called.
With a smartwatch she can see who is calling and think for herself if the call is important enough for her to answer,
who knows it could be the principal or a board member calling.
A few pluses are she can use it as a watch for timing her class when they do activities, and she is working out more so the heart rate monitor will help keep track of how her workouts are going.

Moto 360 2nd gen to go with her Moto G 3rd gen
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B016CKGQWM/ref=twister_B0194BCE04

P.S. she is completely non-tech savvy, they loaned her a laptop at/for school and she can't use office or drop box so she sticks pen and paper...

Asus Zenwatch 2 for my Mother.

She really likes her new smartphone, and has been getting really good at figuring out how to use it. She has also been trying to lose weight, and I am hoping that the heartbeat sensor, and pedometer in the watch will help her do that.

I would buy my dad a 500GB SSD because it would bring some life into his dying computer. He bought the thing in 2010 and is now complaining about how slow it is. I think this would give it enough life to hold it together until I can make him a new one.

I would definitely get my family a NAS. My parents and sisters have individual computers they use and they take turns in sharing external hard drives for backup up their files. I hope a NAS would make their lives much easier.

I would like a GoPro HERO 4 Black, but since it's not even near to $300 so an alternative is the GoPro HERO3+ Black (maybe it will cost more if New, but I won't mind if it's Refurbished). It will be for my family (my Dad especially). This tech will be great for him because the last handycam is stolen, since then recording videos is only possible using phone, which the resolution and fps is crap.

I woud love to offer my dad a tablet. He teaches at the UNIVERSITY with my mother's pink 6 years old athlon eee PC notebook running on ubuntu 14.04 LTS for sake of fluidness. YES. PINK. THIS ONE.

So my idea consist on ofering a portable device, yet simple, witch offers the oportunity for him to get of this piece of junk pc. I've been doing some research and i've found this one: http://www.amazon.ca/ASUS-MeMOPad-NEXUS7-ASUS-2B16-Tablet/dp/B00YT6L0VE/ref=sr_1_71?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1449758995&sr=1-71

It's still more powerfull than what he uses now, and way more simple to use, as my father never used linux before T.T .

So  thank you guys for this, really. Happy Holidays!

Hey, first off i wanna say this was a wonderful idea and will help 3 lucky people very much, hopefully i can be one of them. I want to gift my items to my cousin, who is 16, and trying to get into movie/film/photo production as his career, I got him a Nikon D3300 with some accessories for his birthday which helped him a lot. We don't have much of a budget, in fact the money I bought the camera with should've been my rent. I would love to get him a 850 evo 500GB ssd for fast access to his videos and files, hes been complaining about his old gen pc being slow, as well i'd like to get him a pair of Astro a40s cause his current headphones (which i dont even know the brand) are torn, scratched and the right speaker is about to give out, and he would utilize them for the increased sound quality of the videos. On his next birthday im going to try and help him get a new cpu that has more cores so he can export easier.

Thanks, and the rules didnt say anything about a limit to 1 item just the $300 budget i hope this is ok. Congratulations to everyone who wins!

I would get my mother, either a nice photo frame (or another model) so I can stop getting bugged about pictures of my kids.

Or I would get her an echo and a new router - she would love to have the sports scores told to her
