Tech Gifts for Non-techies Giveaway!

I thought long and hard about this topic and i feel the best gift to get my parents for the holidays is an Onhub Router. I cannot tell you how often i get calls while at school or work asking me how to fix the router, or anything like that. With Google's simple setup and applications (they all have smartphone so they can all use the app easily) they shouldn't have an issue with routers for a while. The one i would be looking at is the Asus one because with the few extra features it has it makes the extra $30 worth it.

I'd love to setup a (1080/48in-55in) SmartTV in my moms room, she currently has a cheapo 38' LCD which has bad formatting and cuts off most of the picture no matter what I do to fix it!

I've even offered to give her my SyncMaster B2330HD which I use as a monitor on my main setup for her to use in her room, all though smaller it's still an OK screen compared to hers.

Although she tries to stay tech savvy by having the latest smartphone(every 2 years) and other things, I'd still like to get her a nice SmartTV so she has everything in one place and wont have to turn on 20 different things just to watch some Netflix in her room.

Any SmartTV in the above specifications is fine from any reputable brand, as long as there is no dreadful formatting/coloring!

I don't know what else to say ;-;. Kappa.

This year I fixed my mom's laptop by installing an SSD on it.

I'd give her 8GB of RAM, she has 4.

I'd also fix the internet in her room, but being that our house is concrete its hard to get wi-fi to her room and cables are not an option, so we would need 2 Apple Airport Express (we're an apple household)

2 x http://www.amazon.com/Apple-AirPort-Express-Station-MC414LL/dp/B008ALA2RC/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1449757750&sr=1-1&keywords=apple+airport+express

1 x http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-PC3-8500-204-Pin-CT2K4G3S1067M-CT2C4G3S1067M/dp/B008LTBJFM/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1449757989&sr=1-1-fkmr1&keywords=ram+8b+macbook+pro+2009

All totals about 225 USD + Shipping & Customs to Chile.

My aunt really needs a new phone as her current one is in pretty bad shape, with a cracked screen and housing and all. I thought I'd get her a Blu Energy X Plus:

http://www.amazon.ca/BLU-Energy-Smartphone-Battery-US-Unlocked/dp/B0129TQLPW/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1449757310&sr=8-4&keywords=blu

For the price you pay, this phone really does have a lot to offer. It has a big 5.5" which the non-techie older folks seem to like, since they claim the bigger screen makes things easier to read. It also has a rear 8MP camera, a quad-core processor and 1GB of RAM which should be sufficient for the tasks my aunt does on her phone.

Most importantly, it has a big 4,000mAh battery so it doesn't need to be charged every day. Especially when in the hands of a non-power user, they should see maybe two days of usage before the phone requires charging.

The only downside is that the internal storage is a mere 8GB, but that's easily solvable by using the MicroSD expansion capabilities of the phone.

A Samsung Galaxy J7 for my Dad. He's been using an old phone for a while now and he was planning to buy a new one, but my sister wanted to have a new phone too. So he bought a new one for my sister instead, and nothing for himself. Thanks and Happy Holidays!

After being through a, not only technically, challenging recovery of my mother's data and given the fact she is still using a 5 year old ISP provided AP my gift of choice would be an Apple Time Capsule: http://amzn.com/B00DBA1VYU

This is easy to use even for Non-techies and provides one of the most important Features -- Backup

the first person i thought of when hearing "Gift a person of your choice" is my aunt. She has helped me and my brother years ago when we were struggling to get our lives together. I really wanted to give her something back, but all of my money has been eaten by doing my drivers licence.

She is a very untechie person, she still uses a flip phone and even sending a text message is too complicated for her (For real: She has never send one to that day). But she doesn't want to have a smartphone, or spend money on something she can barely afford or knows how to use it.

She has also one of those CRT TVs mounted to her wall. It's currently dying, and when I try to watch TV, i get sick in a matter of minutes. I'm not very often at her's, so she's the one living with it.

So, i'd like to get her this: http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN32J5205-32-Inch-1080p-Smart/dp/B00U9U8RZQ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1449757698&sr=8-2&keywords=television+32+inch+samsung, because i think this would suit her very well.

Thank you, Linus, for making this possible :)

WD 6TB My Book external HDD ($179.99) for Dad so he doesn't keep backing up his work files on 4GB USB sticks and finally set up automatic backups.

My brother could use a new keyboard, he has one he bought for 5 euros and it's pretty much crap.

I already own a k70 myself and it's awesome, it's my first mechanical keyboard... after using normal keyboard for what? 10 years? It's just an awesome feeling typing on it and I can type much much more faster on it, I already started to plan on buying him a cheaper one as a gift but I saw this, maybe I have a little chance? :) He doesn't really game a lot, he did use to play LoL but now he doesn't use his pc for anything else than word, excel and chrome, so yeah I guess we could say he's a non-techie, it doesn't have to be this keyboard specifically but I just want him to get a mechanical one

My wife absolutely LOVES reading books.

I have been doing research on eReaders and have been planning to get her one for Christmas.

This giveaway would be the perfect opportunity to get a really good one; the Kindle Voyage.

Here's the link to the $250 product on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017HQ1JNQ

P.S. I couldn't link directly to the right color but she would prefer the color blue.

I would really like to get my mom an SSD for her laptop. She's always complaining how it's so slow, so that would be awesome :)

My Mother has been complaining about her PC not having enough space left to store all her photos and videos of birthday cakes that she bakes for her friends and for my family! It's really nice to surprise her with a large hard drive to store her data. A WD Black 5 TB harddrive would really be helpful for her.

Here's a link to the product on Amazon: It's $250 :)

PS4 Star Wars Battlefront bundle for my dad because while he doesn't really play a lot with our PS3 anymore, maybe he would start playing Battlefront or some other new games. Or just use it for Netflix.

http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-500GB-Console-Battlefront-Bundle-4/dp/B01574SORE/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1449759131&sr=1-1&keywords=playstation+4+starwars

(I really hope I understood the $300 thing since this costs $299 and amazon says the shipping costs 90€ to Finland.)

I would want to give an NVIDIA SHIELD Android TV to my parents.  HTPCs are nice but they can be a bit complex to use and maintain.  The SHIELD makes streaming a variety of content very simple and it doesn't take up much space at all.  I would go with the 500GB + Remote model as long as the promo is running but even without the remote, the extra storage for local files would be nice to have.

4 years ago I bought a Nook Simple Touch for my grandma but half a year ago she broke it in an accident so I thought she would love to have a new one. She loves reading and she was very happy with that e-reader :)

If you don't want to read the above, here's the short info:
e-reader for my grandma
costs 150$ with the case(she needs the case because she often falls asleep with the e-reader and it falls on the ground)

Here's the link:
http://www.amazon.com/Barnes-Noble-NOOK-GlowLight-eReader/dp/1400697565/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1449758474&sr=1-1&keywords=nook+GlowLight+plus

Very nice idea, LinusTechTips :D
