Tesla voluntarily recalls all Model S cars sold to date over a seatbelt malfunction.

Tesla is voluntarily recalling every Model S it has ever made — some 90,000 cars — because of a single report from Europe where the seatbelt wasn’t assembled properly.

In that case, someone in the front passenger seat turned to talk to other passengers in the back seats and her seatbelt became disconnected. According to Tesla, a "bolt that connects the outboard lap pretensioner, which pulls the seatbelt tight in the event of an accident, wasn’t assembled properly." There were no injuries in the incident.

So in short, Tesla does something all other manufacturers should do. One safety issue pops up, immediately recall all other products to address it ASAP, just to eliminate the possibility for things to go really wrong. I like that approach. More people should do that. Good on Elon.

Good PR will get you far. Elon understands that.

Cool, at least they're bothering to do something about it.

Single report prompting a full recall? Props to you, Elon. Good for you.

C'mon tesla! You're better than this!

Glad they're at least taking care of the issue, much better than some companies that will try denying it or hiding int instead.

That seems a little over the top, if the seat belt doesn't function properly why not just let the owners report it? Of course we wouldn't want them to wait until they get in an accident, so they should properly test them before they head out next time; a full recall in a waste of effort. However, there has only been 17,700 odd sold.

It's not like a defect in the speaker system, the seatbelt is a major safety feature. It's good on them to voluntarily recall all of them in order to fix it, but it's also something that must be addressed.

Iw it was almost any other company they would have tried to hide this until there was a huge scandal 10 years later.

I thought I saw this posted earlier but it must have been moved.

I run my browser through NSA ports to make their illegal jobs easier. :P
If it's not broken, take it apart and fix it.

Argh the fanboyism on this forum for Tesla is just as bad as the apple fans, so pathetic. I don't know why I'm surprised though, half the Tesla fans are also those apple fans lmao.

You're right. I'm pretty sure that Toyota recalled a million vehicles because the accelerator was sticking.

But Toyota isn't Tesla so nobody gives a toss here.

Bare in mind there aren't THAT many model Ss around - this isn't the same as a defect on, say, the golf.

Where I live, there's quite a few.

Apparently it doesn't help you remember to put an "an" in front of "easy way" though.

This is stupid imo.

Can you elaborate why?

All the voluntary recall is going to do is have the Tesla brought into a certified mechanic service centre, and the seatbelt mechanism inspected and replaced.

I really don't understand those people who see this as a negative thing. Perhaps if they explained their opinions better, it would make more sense.

Even better. This is the perfect way to handle a situation that could cause considerable loss of life.

Why does anyone not like this? Would you all rather they waited until people had died? Baffles me sometimes...
