So HP made a Star Wars™ Special Edition Notebook [Mini-News]

It's a neat looking case, and something Star Wars fans with 1k to burn can pick up to brighten their day a bit each and every day they see and sit at their laptop.  It is otherwise quite an unimpressive piece of gear.

 

Only hyper threaded dual core options, no quads.

Only intel HD graphics or a 940M dGPU, which isn't terrible.

Only a 4-cell battery, so not particularly mobile with a dGPU.

 

But it is cooler than a macbook, and not quite the out to lunch money grab of "gamer" laptops.

There are options to start the price at $700, but really a $900 config is the minimum that any geek would consider IMO.  The lack of a quadcore makes this DOA for me, but my inner kid still wants to hug and hold it.  Can certainly see it being a good device for lighter users that want to geek out.

I actually saw this thing in person at Best Buy. It's a pretty impressive looking thing, I'd buy one if I needed a new laptop and didn't want an ASUS G751.

From what I could tell, it was a printed design on the machine's chassis. The whole laptop is plastic, just like any Pavilion 15, and the finish is smooth and uniform. And sadly, no hyperspeed

Yes, but Disney is going to capitalize on the rabid fanbase. They're good at that. I just ignore it and pick up the handful of things that I care about.

I don't know how they can still have a "rabid" fanbase when they made all of the amazing video games and books as non-canon.

As someone that has been reading EU books and playing SW games since the 90s...Most of it was crap. The EU was largely terrible with really only a handful of stand out books (The Thrawn Trilogy, parts of Young Jedi Knights, most of New Jedi Order, the first couple books of Legacy, and a handful of others) by the end the EU was unreadably bad. As for games KOTOR 1, 2, Shadows of the Empire, and the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series were the ones with plots worth giving a damn about. Besides, it's not like any of it was ever canon in the first place and it doesn't mean you have to suddenly stop reading the old books or playing the games. They still exist, no one is destroying all of the copies.

Honestly though, I don't know if I'd make the leap and say that it's just a vinyl skin.  I'm sure that's part of it, but I wouldn't assume that there isn't engraving/etching and molding.  I certainly hope so anyways, the case is the only thing here of note, but haven't touched one myself so... :shrugs:

The only point I personally would give for the hp laptop is for its design.
