Youtube Red.

beach_boy98

You sound kind of childish here... Watching ads is a lot better then giving them $10 a month plus he gets to support the content creators too. Unless you work for Google or something what was the point of attacking him like that? :/

Because they are being hypocritical... They're calling out anyone willing to pay feeding greed, when at the same time they are supporting the greedy corporation as well.

I am not sure how porn sites do it, but if Google extended their partner program and streaming services to porn they could probably get a ton of users and content creators very quickly. Not to mention their excellent search capabilities.

What a glorious site that could be... Too bad Google don't want to join the porn industry.

Well they're alphabet now, it's as easy as abcock.

"You're bad for supporting them, yet I'm going to support them too but I'm not bad" Sure, its not as much but not only is even being positive towards them in any way is still supporting them and what they do, watching ads does put money in their pockets.

Watching ads contributes to their wallets too. Being hypocritical is not a very good attribute when talking about corporate greed... Unless of course you ARE the greedy corporation.

How am I being hypocritical? Because Im willing to watch an ad but not pay a monthly fee? Those are two different things. The first one Im not paying out of pocket. The second one I would be paying out of pocket. I value my dollar and Im not going to give that dollar to youtube. I support the content creators with ads and I support youtube with ads. I dont support them with my money. I work hard for that and that money goes to me

I will say, there is often an interesting shift in how people perceive a product and what they will tolerate when the pay dynamic changes.  When the service is free, people tolerate a lot of shit, and just call it the price of free.  But when people start paying for something, they rightfully get upset when things don't work correctly, or what is likely in this case, Youtube fucks up how the page works, or changes how subscriptions show up, or makes large scale changes on the page that everyone hates.

As a company, you can ignore a lot of stuff when the product is free, but once people are paying directly, they don't tolerate nearly as much.  And once people are paying, you have proven that there is a market and competitors will show up and offer that thing you don't.  Lots of companies have some new/smaller company come along and eat their lunch because they get big, and start to forget who pays them.  When a product is free, people will stick with it for a longer time despite it "going down the tubes", but when they pay for it, they will job to a newer better faster version if it is cheaper or just as much.  And they will do so much quicker, since it will mean better enjoyment from their dollars.

I can see it working out just fine, but Youtube will have to step up their game on fucking up people's preferences, sorting algorithms, and all the general layout stuff that has made users angry over the years.

I feel like this is the beginning of something that many people aren't going to like in the future.  I think Youtube profitability is going to decrease for content creators and increase for themselves.  This should be interesting.

You missed the point. Not saying putting money in anyones pocket is a bad thing. Im saying taking money out of my pocket and then taking that money and putting it in their pocket is a bad thing. Again, this comes down to the value of my dollar. I work hard for my dollar and I value the money I make. Ad supported youtube works and works well. The only reason they are offering a payed subscription is to make more money. Its added value for them not you

the math for this RedTube makes me wonder

I have like 20 channels subscribed and actively watching them; each channel would get from me per month 1.998$

if my math is right, if these channels make one video per week and have ~500 views per video, they'll get around 1000$ per month

Ok I NOW see your point. That didn't seem to be THE point of your initial post. It looked more like it was to support something else, not be the point. But I do have to question that ad youtube 'works'. Does it really? Didn't google just say its not "making it rain" if you will, just a few months ago?

Though I have to say, the whole "value of the dollar" argument sounds pretty petty to me thinking about it. Can you really quantify its worth globally? Even in the exact same monetary situation, people will view their dollars worth differently. Can you really talk down to them because they think differently?

I wish there was a study as to how paid services compare to add supported free services in terms of revenue. Say losing a quarter of Spotify free accounts in favor of paid premium accounts, do they make substantially more money or is it about the same.

Both Vessel and this are retarded. Pretty much screaming out loud EXCLUSIVITY, RICH PEOPLE ONLY.

I understand the ad-free watching and all that.

But members-only videos? What is that. Youtube only gained popularity because it was open for everyone, so now you want to close that again?

I'm not paying this until YouTube and its issues are fixed. Subscription boxes are still fucked, there have been issues with the UI for years now, and I still can't just create a YouTube account, I'm forced into a Google account. Where is that option Google?

I'd rather take that $10 a month and throw it at Twitch for Turbo or support two streamers that I enjoy. At least their UI isn't trash.

I can and I do. I understand that we all have different opinions about the worth a dollar and I also understand that no one is correct about the worth of a dollar (as in what my dollar is worth to me or what your dollar is worth to you). But with that said, I'll talk down to people that support monthly paid subscriptions to sites like youtube. I think those people dont know the worth of a dollar or value their dollar. If they did they wouldnt support youtube red or vessel. I also think those people have a miss placed idea of where that dollar is going. Its not going to make the content creators richer, its not going to make the content better, its not going to make the experience better (with the exception of external ads). Content creators like Linus and other hardware youtubers (using pc tech channels as an example) will still have those sponsor spots in the videos and the quality of the content will still come down to the creators. The only thing the paid subscription does is make youtube more money and gives you nothing in return. It doesnt offer any value for that dollar.

A 15-30 sec ad gives a ton of value and costs you only that 15-30 secs. No money out of pocket. And you dont have to watch that ad. Not saying use adblock or anything like that. You have the power to walk away from the pc, mute the volume, open another tab, ect.

This sounds nice. However I wonder if YouTube Music and Google Play Music are two entirely different services. I'm curious since I currently have a Google Play Music subscription.

As long as the normal youtube with ads is still there. I see no problem.

About two years ago, the android youube app could download your subscriptions and play in the background (with the screen locked counts as background)

They are now charging you $10/month for this and limiting it to certain countries.

Pisses me off damn near as much as youtube rental videos that I'd have to be in a different country to even consider using.

I didn't think this would suck that much when I thought I can still watch the same content w/ ads. But just seeing some of the planned exclusives makes me a lil upset. Lazer Team (RT FTW!), Fight of the Living Dead, and some others sound like pretty good shows.

$10/month is BS for that. Vessel is $3, Hulu is $8, and Netflix is $9/month. The last two actually give you real shows and feature films to watch. I hope they come up with a alternative plan that is strictly YT originals w/o music, gaming, etc. for less. Hopefully if people actually argue and boycott it instead of flocking to it they will consider a lower tier option.

Only $9.99 that's really $10 dollars. So $10 a month, $120 per year. for 5 years you'll pay $600. For $600 you can get yourself a pretty high-end video card if you save up.

"letting you save videos to watch offline on your phone or tablet"

Who wants to bet this will be some DRM-infested bullcrap requiring a special app? Especially since they conveniently omit PC.

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.
