So many people will get fired for using "redtube" on the job.

Watching Intel have competition is like watching a headless chicken trying to get out of a mine field

I didn't think this would suck that much when I thought I can still watch the same content w/ ads. But just seeing some of the planned exclusives makes me a lil upset. Lazer Team (RT FTW!), Fight of the Living Dead, and some others sound like pretty good shows.

$10/month is BS for that. Vessel is $3, Hulu is $8, and Netflix is $9/month. The last two actually give you real shows and feature films to watch. I hope they come up with a alternative plan that is strictly YT originals w/o music, gaming, etc. for less. Hopefully if people actually argue and boycott it instead of flocking to it they will consider a lower tier option.

https://sites.google.com/site/ytredpress/youtube-originals/youtube-red-originals-blogpost for some of the planned shows.

you get google play music.

YOU get a lot more then just no ads on youtube

and the other services don't goupto 8k 60fps

People subscribe to Netflix for movies and TV shows that are a lot more significant then random videos online. Youtube has some of those but is mostly every type of random pointless video in every category for FREE because it's not worth it to pay for pointlessness like that. Then "redtube" comes along saying "hey let's pay for the pointlessness instead of just getting it for free!". You wouldn't drive to a theater and pay how ever much it is to get in just to watch a few cat videos right?

Ofc there is good stuff on Youtube like LTT but I'm talking about the vast majority of Youtube videos :P

But idc about google music and all those other benefits besides the exclusive content. Adblock solves the no ads thing, I don't really watch YT on mobile data so don't care about queuing up dozens of videos for offline viewing (and don't know any ppl who do either), and 8k 60fps means nothing since we are just NOW getting affordable real 4k screens.

Both Hulu and Netflix offer multiple tiers for their services from basic to premium level. For a company that has been free for 10 years already jumping straight into $10/month is insane. And idk about you but there are less than a handful of yt creators I consider to have premium content.

People are saying RIP Vessel, but honestly, I don't mind it and will continue to use it after the free 12 months run out. Its also cheaper than YouTube Red at only $3 per month instead of $9.99. In my opinion, YT released this too late, it took other companies to light a fire under their ass to get them to do anything.

are you seriously comparing youtube,i repeat YOUTUBE with vessel(lol)? even worse you complain that a company didn't grab your money earlier? thats funny and sad at the same time

I got YouTube Red years ago, it's called AdBlock and a video downloader.

YouTube Red finally brings in background play as well.

I'll never pay cash for youtube or any other site that has user created content. I pay with my time though a 15-30 sec ad. Im not going to be sheep and pay cash to watch youtube. I hope that this doesnt change how youtube works in the future. And for anyone that is willing to pay $10 a month to youtube, why? Its just feeding corporate greed. Im starting to think that kids now a days have no sense of value when it comes to the dollar.

Well if you use spotify or other services, there's no reason to not get a google music subscriptions instead and you get no ads on youtube on top of that.

The android app used to have that ability, and you could go to home screen and the vid would still play in the background (would appear with in the notification pull down like music was playing: back/skip/pause etc) was pretty sweet until one of the updates sorted that out for a potential money making scheme like this.

It's even more worth it for me, I ALREADY pay for google play music at 10 dollars a month, so now I'll get two for the same price by getting this service.  Linus will buy a second pink lambo and build a mancave attachment to his office building.

I am impelled not to squeak like a grateful and frightened mouse, but to roar...

I can and I do. I understand that we all have different opinions about the worth a dollar and I also understand that no one is correct about the worth of a dollar (as in what my dollar is worth to me or what your dollar is worth to you). But with that said, I'll talk down to people that support monthly paid subscriptions to sites like youtube. I think those people dont know the worth of a dollar or value their dollar. If they did they wouldnt support youtube red or vessel. I also think those people have a miss placed idea of where that dollar is going. Its not going to make the content creators richer, its not going to make the content better, its not going to make the experience better (with the exception of external ads). Content creators like Linus and other hardware youtubers (using pc tech channels as an example) will still have those sponsor spots in the videos and the quality of the content will still come down to the creators. The only thing the paid subscription does is make youtube more money and gives you nothing in return. It doesnt offer any value for that dollar.

A 15-30 sec ad gives a ton of value and costs you only that 15-30 secs. No money out of pocket. And you dont have to watch that ad. Not saying use adblock or anything like that. You have the power to walk away from the pc, mute the volume, open another tab, ect.

I use Youtube almost every single day, it is one of my primary forms of entertainment. Personally I think $10 a month, or 32¢ a day, pales in comparison to the value I get with the services Youtube and it's content creators supply.

"Its not going to make the content creators richer, its not going to make the content better, its not going to make the experience better (with the exception of external ads)."

The content creators will be getting a cut from the subscription. This will supplement there income, and if the service becomes successful enough, It could overtake their ad revenue, considering the increasing number of adblock users.

Dammit, Google.

Yeah it sucks. Back in the day could listen to the equivalent of other channels WAN shows without having to keep the screen out of ur pocket/unlocked.

Was awesome for listening to stand up comedy during commutes. Find video, play, lock screen, put in pocket and enjoy. Such a shame.

at least that's a good thing since companies like to compete over who can rip the most people off in the best way nowadays...

*cough* talking to you microsoft who somehow got the PS4 to stoop down to your low low level and charge money for online play *cough*

But then Microsoft turned around and made it so you only had to pay once, you could still play online after it expired just you wouldn't get the extra benefits.

So basically they screwed Sony.

No, What I am comparing is it took YT too long to do this and the price difference. Views to views, YT destroys Vessel, there is no comparison, end of argument,

But I personally prefer Vessels subscription method, $3 a month vs the $9.99 (although that was before I realised that included Google Play Music as well.), and the fact that it took another company to do this before YT put full priority behind this program.

On a different note:

But also straight conversion as well for price.

YouTube Red is going to be $9.99 in America (Same Price as Google Music) When the exact same service in the UK costs £9.99 a month. If I convert the £ to $, the UK gets shafted,

($9.99 -> ~£6.50, but yet £9.99 -> ~$15.40), and its not just Google that does this sort of thing, another great example of this practice is Spotify Premium. I love that service and will pay for it, but when the conversion comes in to play, for the exact same service, why in the UK, do people have to pay extra?

Also, where was I complaining that a company didn't grab my money?
