AMD Begins To Sell Radeon R7 DDR4 Memory Modules

HKZeroFive

So far, the only 32GB (2x16GB) that i've seen for sale, are the Corsair Vengeance LPX and the GeIL Super Luce kits. Do you know if Kingston or Crucial sells kits with the same density? ITX boards only have 2 DIMM slots, so its important that they are 16GB DIMMS.

The HyperX kits haven't been released yet. I don't know about the Crucial kits though.

As if  they even said that.. Avoiding their site from now on.

will AMD ever let go of the R7 naming scheme or is that just me?  GPU's, SSD's, now RAM (there is probably more).  It'd be like intel making their SSD's the i7, i5 or i3, and then making ram and doing the same thing

I like the look of their memory, but.. eh.  I can't see anyone putting DDR4 in a Skylake build.  It would seem unnatural.

I know Skylake is compatible with both DDR3/4 but don't most Z170 motherboards only have DDR4 compatible slots?

Fuaaaaar so much salt man, I get them and AMD haven't had very good relations but this... this is just unnecessary.

Just about all of them use DDR4, and a few use DDR3L, but I can't see most people putting AMD DDR4 in a Skylake or Haswell-E build.  It also makes very little sense as to why they made it at all.  Like @KemoKa said - this is an odd move when they could possibly be 18 months or less from possible death if they don't have smash hits, and this seems like a waste of money. Even if all they do is slap a sticker on it, they're still paying a sum of money they could use to stave off the future.

My opinion, though.

It should look nice in a Zen build when that is out.

Well Im about to get DDR4 on my main machine. I like the corsair vengeance lpx better but I wish the vengeance pro was in ddr4

PC is Intel Core i5 6400, GIgabyte H170 Gaming 3, Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x4GB 2400Mhz ,Sandisk Ultra Plus 128GB, WD Blue 1TB, NZXT S340, ASUS Geforce GTX 960. Fractal Design Tesla R2 650W. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/793XNG. Graphics card choices don't always have to be dictated on performance. If you want the game stream and power consumption of the GTX 970 get that. If you want raw performance of the R9 390 get that. In the end we are all gamers, so what if your buddy gets an extra 5 fps?

For competitions sake I hope Zen is good and AMD gets revived, as an Intel guy I want my prices to drop with competitive marketing.

At first after reading the headline I got the impression that AMD were giving up on trying to sell their R7 graphics cards and have taken the VRAM off of them and are trying to sell that for parts or something.

I think AMD screwed themselves over with their weird naming schemes. When you think "R7", you think low-end gear with R9 being the higher end. Right off the bat the memory based on name alone don't scream high performance. Considering that AMD doesn't even have a DDR4 platform readily available like Intel has for sometime, this memory kit seems all the more useless.

Could be worst. At least these kits don't also have something tacky on them like the "Fata1ity" branding. [shots fired]

Or it could mean that they intend on releasing higher performance "R9" stuff later on, the DDR4 in this article is just "okay".

Oh yeah, there is an update to Antons statement:

AMD’s Radeon R7 DDR4 memory modules are not performance champions, but fans of AMD’s Radeon graphics cards and modders make purchase decisions based on design and visual aesthetics, not on performance.

EDIT on above: 6th October 8.39am by Allan ‘Zardon’ Campbell – Editor in Chief. This is not ‘KitGuru’s opinion’ and I am issuing an clarification/apology in regards to this statement. It is incorrect, inflammatory and should never have been published by Anton last night.

So they can to have something newer. Having it for Zen will be nice. Maybe they'll have R9 series by then?
Ow, just remembered, what about their Radeon SSDs they'll return to them also?

Who cares about branding. You can put an AMD GPU into a Skylake build and no one is complaining.
