first of all is wccftech article... so take it with a grain of salt... second of all the spec of this card in this article look like its troll... and if true .. last time NV made a dual GPU card it cost 3000 dollars... so expect this to be pretty expensive around 2k... plus u can buy a classic sli/cf config for way cheaper... so this product will  be a waste of R&D

It probably is real as there was a "secret" Nvidia event recently which youtubers were invited to but nobody has made a video about what happened there yet so I would expect the release to pretty soon as well as review videos.

I'm pretty sure Linus already knows all the details of the card and they might even have a review sample already.

Cheapest AIO? It was an Asetek unit. And it costs money to make a dual GPU card too. You do pay for extra for the smaller form factor.

And MSI and EVGA takes over 700$ (make that 1000$ https://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-video-card-gtx980tiseahawk) for their 980ti with an Asetek unit. The 295x2 uses 2 Asetek coldplates and pumps. What else should they put on it? Not all cases supports 24 cm rads after all. Also the 12cm rad was completely sufficient to prevent the card from throttling, so what is the problem?

 

Fanboy? The 295x2 beat the Titan Z in pretty much all games at half the price. No paying twice for less would constitute a real fanboy.

Titan Z was 2 grand. R9 295X2 was a lot cheaper. He's right

Of course, it's a mark of the fanboy to need to represent someone who isn't actually promoting either card in a positive light as someone who is Against Them because they are not For Them. If that sentence was too difficult for you: my first post in this thread was how the Titan Z AND 295x2 were both terrible value.

The difference is that the two GPU's on the 295x2 was clocked higher than the normal 290x and you got an AIO water cooler on top. The Titan Z was underclocked heavily compared ti the Titan Black's and came with a cheapo crappy cooler.

The Titan Z was not only underclocked, it also fell out of the boost clocks almost all of the time. I doubt we will see two full fledged, full speed GM200's on a card. If we get two full fledged GM200's, they will have to be underclocked considerably, or thrown under a water block. If they put this thing on air, do not expect to OC it at all. Even then, two 980 Ti's will almost certainly outperform it, as they will be able to be overclocked far higher, and run cooler. The only purpose for using a dual GPU card would be if you were limited on PCIE slots on your board (ITX). Even then, putting a card that is destined to run hot, in an ITX environment, is just asking for more trouble than what its worth.

 

I could be wrong though. NVidia already proved me wrong with that desktop 980 in those laptops. They somehow managed to cut its TDP down using some sort of sorcery beyond my current understanding (I didn't look too far into it, but i am sure they cut it down somewhere, or are cherry picking some hardcore 980's to undervolt). Perhaps they can do the same magic here, and give us a card that won't remind us of a set of Fermi's.

It's not a £30 part when you have double the pumps. I get the point of buying 2 x 290x, as it is cheaper. But the 295x2 is cooler, quieter and made for ITX builds. It's a niche product after all.

My best guess is they cut out some of the 980s that people don't actually notice (the way they crippled maxwell's "work" capabilities in terms of double precision in order to have them run cooler.

In any way - I'm really eager to see the Fury X2 - that's supposedly going to be short and using 2x Nanos

Yeah the Titan Z was a joke. 2x full speed GM200 is possible with a similar AIO build like the 295x2, and I do believe NVidia will have learned from their tripple slot shitty cooler on the Titan Z.

Well those 980 laptop chips are cherry picked for their purpose, and it did not run at same speeds as the 980 desktop. Still impressive though.

I think its actually going to be two cards. the first card is going to be a single GPU quadro/gtx hybrid like the titan black and the other card is two of them on a single card.

Unless I can get it for less than $500, I don't care. My hardware budget has pretty much dried up, come back in 6 months.

 

Edit:I just read the 'source' article and these specs are truly impressive. I can't even begin to imagine how Nvidia pulled off [twice as many CUDA cores] with a TDP of [a lot of watts]. And I am so glad they finally added [many GBs] of Vram to the GPU, we've been asking for this for years!

That's normal. The 295x2 was three times the cost of a single 290X. It was no better value than the Titan Z, it's just that the base card (the 290X vs Titan Black) was much cheaper on the AMD side.

at launch sure but it had an AIO liquid cooler and now its about 700 which is only like 20 dollars more expensive and the titan z was underclocked so you are only getting a 60% performance benefit for 200% more cost also it was a triple slot card which i dont like

Would love to have a GTX 990 if it is truly the card that will be released. Bought the InWin 901 case and will be doing X99 with a AsRock ITX mobo so this will be awesome to have for a dual GPU card for this little rig.

Well Pascal is still a year away, so this is merely a competitive product to AMD's Fury X2 (dual GPU card). It's a niche product for people who might want an SLI setup in a tiny build.

If it was a dual Maxwell with 24GB of memory (combined, 12GB effective), that would be insane. irregardless, it looks like a single card that might finally beat the 295X2. performance will still be on par with the upcoming FuryX2, but interesting that Nvidia are desparate to get theirs out first.

They're not desperate to get it out, it's called good business strategy by beating AMD to the punch. Much like the 980 Ti. If they price it reasonably, it could put a hamper on the Fury X2. I can see them pricing it to their estimated Fury X2 launch price, as they forced AMD (imo) to price the Fury X lower than they wanted to.

At the 1:13:42 mark on the latest WAN show, Linus freaks out for a bit because he almost disclosed some information about a dual GPU card.

So I thoroughly believe that the alleged NVIDIA card is a dual-GPU card. Which is reasonable, since AMD is coming out with theirs, and NVIDIA needs something to challenge it. But still, let's hope NVIDIA doesn't fuck this up like they did with the $3000 Titan Z (which was embarrassingly beat out by the much cheaper 295X2).
