I'm a licensed carry and I carry my Beretta PX4 9mm. Beautiful pistol. I ordered a Heritage 22/22mag revolver a few days ago. Been decades since I had a 22.

I'll post pics when I get it. Here's my Beretta:

That's a large carry piece.

Do you do owb?

When I carried, I mostly G26 appendix IWB.

I let mine expire because none of the places I went to on a daily basis allowed carry.

A good holster goes a long way toward concealing a larger gun. I carry a G19 with an RMR and an XC1 AIWB every day and I'm not a big guy; 5'11" ~165lbs.

Also, concealed is concealed. ;)

Yeah, I get that.

But my IA specifically states the CCW isn't valid anywhere where guns are prohibited.

Signs don't carry weight of law here, but if the prohibition invalidates the CCW, it's the same as carrying without a license.

Also, state law used to exempt CCW holders from being prohibited on school grounds, but that was changed. So it became impractical to drop the kids off at school.

All in all, just too restrictive.

I’m looking at both a Century Arms C308 and Ruger American Compact chambered in .45.

the C308 they have at my gun shop, and for decent prices.  The Ruger I’m having a hard time finding in 45 and compact, but a gun show is coming up.  Does anyone know size comparisons comparative to other compact pistols.  My two “bigger” concealable pistols are a SCCY CPX-2 and FEG PA-63.  I’m wondering how the Ruger compares to other compact 45s, as I can’t find much online about it, other than an off comment I saw on one site where someone says it’s comparable to a Glock 36 in size, the Ruger being double stack and 36 being single.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

Not sure of your size requirements.

I know I highly recommend anything in the Springfield XDM lineup. Their triggers are fucking amazing. Also I recommend against anything polymer framed from CZ, their triggers are mushy and not great.

Full disclosure: I have had one accidental discharge of a firearm in my life, and that was with an XDM .40 cal, and due to my own negligence. Luckily no one was hurt, and as a result I am highly distrustful of striker fired pistols.

I still recommend ANYTHING from the XDM (specifically XDM, not XD) lineup for how good the trigger is. Even though I can't get my preferred Hogue Monogrip for it. The trigger is just infinitely predictable. Only handgun I prefer over it is my dads J-frame .357 Magnum, which, despite its abuse due to his negligence, is still a dream to shoot. Feels like an extension of the hand.

I don’t mind striker fired pistols, but currently all my CC pistols are hammer fired.  I know the Ruger will probably be a little bigger than what I’m used to, I’ve held the 9mm version, and it’s comfortable in my hand.

(tbh, I find my LCP comfortable)

I just know the .45 version will be a little bigger and if anyone knows what it’s size is comparable to.  I’m guessing it’s comparable to the XDM.

I’m not looking at CZs or Springfields, but I appreciate the recommendation regardless.

I don't have the C308, but I do own the original .308 version of that one and it's pretty fun to shoot.  Unfortunately, all the ammo I have is what the guy gave me with the gun when I bought it, and all of it is steel core which means the ranges around here won't allow me to shoot it indoors.  Sadly, there's not too many outdoor range options available, either (that, and it's still winter outside).

As for the .45, I've only shot up to 9mm so I don't have any recommendations for you there.

That's why I absolutely love my H&K P2000, because it has a hammer striker.  Hammer up means I have to pull extra long to fire, hammer down and I can see at a glance that it's ready to fire.  It also has a striker release lever on the back, if I don't want the hammer down.  It's like a 1911 without all the extra bling like manual safety or grip safety.  That might not appeal to you, but it certainly does to me.

There’s nothing but outdoor ranges here, and depending on how far off the highway I am, I can shoot anyways, so steel core wouldn’t be an issue, but I have plenty of .308 anyways.

As for .45, I’m just the type that likes to carry a different gun depending on my mood.  I already have something in .380, 9mm, and 9mm Mak.

I recommend the XDM purely because of the trigger. It's absolute perfection in my book. The break is just infinitely predictable and repeatable.

My dislike of striker fired pistols is purely because I went to decock one, which was basically firing it, and I forgot to check the chamber.

As you'd expect, a bullet was fired, a wall was wounded, and pants were browned and ruined.

The XDM lineup has great safety features, my distrust is 100% my own fault for being negligent. I failed to see the loaded chamber indicator. The XDM model also has a cocked firing pin indicator as well.

Again, my distrust or discomfort is only my own fault. They're great guns. If you can, give one a try at a range for a hundred rounds or so.

Specifically, with hot rounds. Mine is a short barrel with a full sized grip and it throws fire balls, but doesn't kick too bad, and the trigger break is absolutely predictable. I've never been more accurate with a pistol at 15 meters.

I prefer 9mm because it's as lethal as .45, but double the ammo capacity and equal in terms of how easy it is to control.

Oh yeah, all the Ruger American pistols have live chamber indicators, plus the trigger safety, and a thumb safety depending if I get the standard model or pro model

I really hate the way the word "safety" is treated on firearms.

As far as I am concerned, "safety" means if it's on and you pull the trigger, nothing happens.

A trigger safety, that being device that prevents accidental pulling of the trigger, should be called something else, because that's not a safety.

the only thing that should be called a safety, is a thing that when on prevents the trigger being pulled from firing the gun.

Yeah, I agree.  I have two Ruger pistols (an LC9s Pro and an SR9), and they both have that ridiculous trigger "safety".  At best, it makes it slightly more difficult to accidentally pull the trigger.  However, I've actually had it pinch my finger when firing it at the range before.  I've considered having it replaced with a standard trigger, though I'm not sure if anyone makes one that fits either of them.

The XDM version of the trigger safety isn't bad. It's pointless, but it doesn't impede the function of the trigger.

All they need to do is add in a safety that disables the trigger. That could easily and readily replace the "trigger safety" that they have on there.

We have open carry so I carry mine OWB but concealed by my vest. For years I carried a Glock G29 10mm (love that little guy) but it was getting a bit much for me so I got this 9mm PX4. It's loaded with Fenix 9mm +P+ Gold Dots (1375 fps but now they're 1250 fps).

As I promised, here's my Heritage 22/22mag combo revolver. It's a sweetie.

Might want to verify the laws on that.  Here in Nebraska at least, it's only considered open carry if visible from three angles (front, back and side).  Otherwise, it's considered concealed carry.

Forgot to post this thing in here once I finished it. Building it was weirdly similar to building a PC in that adult lego kit kinda way. Total cost was around $800 and she shoots like she cost at least double that, which is pretty bonkers for being technically a glock. Anyone else tried a p80 build?

...and yeah I know the picture makes my hand look like it's tiny, was just holding it at a weird angle lol

Sheriff's Department called today, my CCW was ready now time to get serious about some pistol shopping :)

Springfield XDM line has amazing triggers, and last I checked was doing a deal that gets you two free stainless steel mags for registering your pistol warranty thingy with them.

Their magazines are very nice. Never had a malfunction in my XDM other than that one time I somehow accidentally ended up with a .380 round in my 9mm gun. Not enough power to cycle it.
