Well, this is frustrating.  Looks like I'll have to wait a couple weeks more to get my pistol carbine.  I was so looking forward to ordering that this weekend.  At least I've got all the extra components for it that I wanted.

I plan to buy a pull ring for the rear, but otherwise I'm not going to dump too much into it as it's just for plinking at the range.  Though, if I can find a high capacity mag, I might get that.  Reloading two mags that only hold 10 rounds each is a minor annoyance when I just want to keep shooting.

21 round Pmag. Might replace it with some G19 mags that have +6 extensions.

Eh. As far as I'm concerned, it's an AKM with a different chambering.

I'd rather focus on things with less common mechanisms if I'm rolling with a design of somewhat questionable reliability, such as box fed shotguns.

I like the looks of that, could be a fun Rabbit Gun. Thinking more along the lines of the 30.5 inch KSG/Keltech but that is a bit more expensive.

Having a Slavic boyfriend helped me appreciate Kalashnikov guns a bit more, because if there's one thing the commies did right, it was make weapons.

Again, not really. Soviet weapons were average at best. Their philosophy was quantity, not quality. As a result, they pushed masses of objectively worse weapons than their enemies and allies.

I dunno about all that, Kalashnikovs are objectively some of the best you can get for longevity and dependability. Average in manufacturing tolerance sure and maybe not more than minute of man accurate but you will be hard pressed to find anything as/more reliable.

The AKM's reliability is highly overstated. It's only more reliable if all rifles compared are unmaintained.

 

Otherwise, the M16/M4/HK416, FAL, SCAR, G3, are all more reliable in dust and mud.

All are more accurate (an average service M4 is roughly 5-7 minute of angle, an AKM is 14), half of them fire harder hitting bullets and the other half fire a round that is very effective against many forms of body armor.

 

 

Russian military doctrine is quantity, not quality.

The whole point in dependability is the use without regular maintenance. AR variants are much more susceptible to dust and mud because of the tighter tolerances to which they are manufactured, this is a fact. I am not as familiar with the FAL, SCAR or G3 in that respect so I can't speak to that.

False. The tight tolerances is the exact reason that you can literally bury an AR in mud and it will run without issue.

 

Whereas the Valmet M76 will jam in 5 shots or less, and that's the best performance of the AK platform. It's also a tighter tolerance rifle than an AKM. Soviet AKM's jam in 2 rounds.

 

The lose tolerances of the AK works against in in mud and dust, because it gathers in slide rails, locking lugs, and locking surfaces of the trigger group.

 

By design, the AR15, as well as the SCAR and G3, keep foreign debris out.

The AKM, by design, is a cheaply produced gun made for an unqualified army of drunkards.

Oh god, not this AR/AK pecker measuring again. The AK series of rifles are a perfect cheap rifle built for a conscript army with minimal training. They did good job for what they needed. As for reliability. Meh. Each has advantages and disadvantages, but you aren't going to find a 'winner'.
