what gpu and cpu is needed for 8k gaming?

ok im not gonna game on 8k thats just out of the question! im perfectly happy with ny 2k screen 1440p but just been wondering what type of hardware is needed? and how much should it get overclocked to achive 8k gaming on max out setting excluding AA which is zero needed for 8k ofcource

 

do you need a gtx 980ti or titan x? and if so how much of it? is needed? 2 gpu's or 3 gpu's or 4 gpu's! and what about cpu? would a 5960x overclocked be better preformed then the i7-6700k?

With current hardware, nothing can max out anything at 8k using a playable framerate.

idk man. id take 4 titans in sli cooled with liquid nitrogen.  same thing for the cpu. but dual 5960x's

welp, since quad titan X's couldn't handle 12K at 60+ FPS in a NCIX video playing GTA V, i think it might just be enough for 8K gaming at a good high framerate.

you'd definitely need a overclocked I7 too tough. maybe a extreme edition?

I'd assume maybe 3 Titan X cards. 4 is really a joke, since it's only a 5% gain for $1000 dollars on adding the fourth card!

You'd need hardware from the future. We struggle to max out 4K with all out systems, let alone 8K

I don't think you need a seriously beefy CPU, as most of the work that increases with resolution is done on the GPU anyway!

I don't believe those are commercially available.

They were just shown off at CES. If you'll notice, that's a year old.

Sharp and Panasonic both had 8k TV's in 2012 as per the article.

2K is 1080p, 1440p would be 2.5k. 8k is 4 times as many pixels as 4k, it would run, but you'd get a slideshow. Maybe a DX12 game that can scale well on multiple gpu, and then 4 titan X ...

Could be done easily. Don't plan on consumer stuff. One k2 nvidia Grid Card can handle some insane stuff. So with 4 or more I can see 8K playable at 60+ FPS. Then again those cards are around 5K a pop not to mention the other hardware needed

It all depends on what games you are playing, I'm running vanilla Skyrim from 2011 at 8K 60FPS without a problem but Mafia 2 from 2010 runs at 15-20FPS, while Witcher 3 runs at 12FPS:

Most people play (some) games in 1080P while they could easily play them in 4K. Like CS:GO on a 1080P 60hz screen.

DSR is not the same as native 8K. My mistake. 

 

If you wanted to run space invaders at 8K, you could do so with a very week GPU, but it doesn't mean that that GPU is what's needed to run 8K. 

 

We're (well, me, at least) are going under the assumption he means what do you need to run AAA games at 8K with Ultra type settings. It's not a matter of research, it's a matter of interpretation of his question.
