How can I learn more about PC's?

Hey LinusTechTips community!

I'm 14 years old and back in March I became truly interested in the world of PC Gaming and building. I built my first PC last month and have a good understanding of general hardware information. How can I learn even more so I can truly appreciate my hardware and use it to its full potential? If I'm going to be spending a couple thousand on a PC one day, I'd like to know my hardware inside out so I can get the most of my money. I'd like to know things about CPU cores, PSU efficiency, chipsets, read/write speeds, etc. I want to understand things like that so when one day I'm able to afford it I can get the most of it! If you can link me any As Fast As Possible's or LTT videos explaining these kind of advanced things I'd appreciate it! Thank you guys.

If you're wanting to completely understand things, you're not going to be watching Fast as Possible videos. Although they give a good general overview of a subject, it's not that indepth. Learning about these things comes from a mixture of reading, experience and keeping up with new advances.

just watch ltt and pauls hardware and other tech youtubers. stay away from the mainstreams like austin evans if your looking to develop real knowledge.

Watch all the techquickie video's there are super helpful (Atleast for me btw i am 14 years old to so yeah :P)

Search it on the internet.

 

I started to experience interest in technology and computers when I was about 8.

Soon after I got my first internet connection I started looking up whatever interested me, following multiple sources and educational materials to further my knowledge.

TechQuickie and the main LinusTechTips channels are a good place to start.

 

It's simple, if you don't know something, look it up and start tracing back it's origin until you reach the point of what sounds familiar, then establish the connection.

 

That's how I actually know most stuff - searching various places for information on what interests me, after which one thing leads to another.

yeah try reading the linustechtips forum some old linus video's they give general overview of it and if you help some body or experience it your self you will learn it very fast

Watch Tech Quickie, LTT, google any random question that pops in your head, and just watch tech Youtubers. That is how I learned everything

Just keep on keeping on. I can't think of one specific place I've learned more than 10% of my tech knowledge from. Like any other learning, it will just accumulate over time as you continue to read about it and apply it. Sorry, no easy route, but for advanced stuff I think tech news sites are a step up from LTT (I like Anand, Techreport, WCCF even though it's WCCF), and some dark forum somewhere in the depths of the internet (I recall there being a wiki about how chips are made that I've been meaning to look at, can anyone link that for me?) or a college would probably be top.

Tip to those that are new on LTT forum- quote a post so that the person you are quoting gets a notification, otherwise they'll have no idea that you did. You can also use a tag such as @Ryoutarou97 (replace my username with anyone's. You should get a dropdown after you type the "@")to send a notification, but quoting is preferable.

 

Feel free to PM me about absolutely anything be it tech, math, literature, etc. I'll try my best to help. I'm currently looking for a cheap used build for around $25 to set up as a home server if anyone is selling.

 

If you are a native speaker please use proper English if you can. Punctuation, capitalization, and spelling are as important to making your message readable as proper night theme formatting is.

 

My build is fully operational, but won't be posted until after I get a GPU in it and the case arted up.

Build your own PC
Try using Linux or UNIX OS

Learn a programming language such as C# or even just vb.net

Build your own small network with above average security

 

After all that you should have good knowledge in just about everything computers. And anything you dont know that you need to you will have practiced researching for useful material and filtering past crap :)

Good practices:

 

Ask people for their old computers, to take them apart, reverse engineering

 

study for CompTIA, even if you don't plan on A+

 

Offer free support to your friends, family, and people on your street. (Make sure none of them are child molesters... Like on my street)

 

When your old enough, go work at Geek Squad (Or similar support). You will learn alot of commons issues with comptuers that way.
