how so? I never associated weight with sound quality, I just prefer headphones that weigh more. I dont see how its literally any different than a mouse having weights.

This is as true for headphones as it is for anything else.

 

Personally I don't have an issue with it.  If the market wants to buy them then that's fine with me.  I'm sure people who buy them really enjoy them.

Haven't reviewers been saying that Beats latest round of headphones are actually quite nice, even if they cost more than they should (what product carrying a brand name doesn't cost more?). You pay a price premium for the branding and if reviewers are to be believed, the sound is actually admirable. 

 

Some people take audio way, way too seriously. Then again, I take cameras very seriously so I guess we all have our areas of contention

and thats how you know there target audience are not particular caring about the head phones. since lighter headphones is a selling point many of the actual high end company's use.

Depends on the forum.  Here isn't too bad, maybe a comment on it every couple of weeks.  /g/ hates the 980 SLI part.  /v/ everyone gets really mad about the CPU and the fact my GPU's aren't the same model.  /r/amd thinks I should have bought a Fury X and /r/nvidia doesn't understand how computers work anyway.  They just wonder why I didn't just get a 980Ti instead.

the AMD guys are mad because Nvidia put extra metal in their heatsinks to make them feel more premium. when really AMD gpus are just as good without the gimicky metal

People can obviously disagree. thats primarily why I said "I" because its how I feel, and how I see products. The general public may very well see heavier products as sounding better, which in MY mind makes zero sense, as I tell how well something sounds by putting it on and listening.

 Hell, my HD600s are very light, but that doesn't cause me to think any less of them. Headphones need to be light in order for long-term comfort.

If you look at for example AKG (even if they moved production to China) the labour and material cost of just the elements in one of their $300 headphones is more than the cost of an entire finished Beats headphone. Just the elements.

I'm usually all for "heavy things makes things feel premium" but with headphones it really makes no sense. I want the headphone to be as light as possible (while being durable of course) so when I wear them I don't get any fatigue.

Have you got some citations for that?  Because it reads to me like you are saying the raw production cost for $300 AKG headphone's are more than the $250 that beats cost.

$50 does not go along way when you account for logistics, retail profit, company profit, tax and running costs.
