Beats using metal weights in headphones to make it feel premium.

We all knew that beats were very overpriced and really not the best headsets, now they just dug themselves a bigger hole. Then again if your buying headphones just because they are heavy then you have a problem. This is just food for thought.

 

 

 

 

Beats by Dre Solo headphones were torn apart by Avery Louie, a prototype engineer for a start-up company to see what’s inside the expensive headphones. What he shockingly found was that about one third of the overall weight of the headphones came from four metal parts that were there “for the sole purpose of adding weight,” he wrote.
His teardown also found that parts were stuck together with snaps and glue instead of screws and is almost entirely made of injection moulded plastic, “which is essentially free at high volumes,” Louie writes.
The estimated cost to make one set of Beats by Dre Solo headphones, not including shipping and labour is $21.70, while they retailed well over $300 when they were released.

Yeah read this before, not surprising though.

 

I am not audio expert whatever so I just play it save and buy sennheiser, cheap or expensive units they never failed to deliver what I needed.

That's just the opinion of an unknown product designer for a start up company.  Maybe it's true maybe it's not. 

 

I personally don't like beats, however the raw material cost of most products like headphones is next to nothing, so that is a moot point.   The weights might be there solely so it sits properly on the head when walking or climbing stairs.  It wouldn't be the first time ballast has been used to do nothing more than stabilize a product.

 

No point in having good headphones (subjective opinion) if they keep falling off.  Seriously I own light weight headphones that fall off if I lean back, I own lightweight headphones that have a clamp force strong enough to crack nuts, and I have headphones right in the middle.  Best not to assume we know best when we know nothing.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

They may be increasing the weight of the headphones for the sole purpose of deceiving the customer.

They may be increasing the weight of the headphones for the sole purpose of deceiving the customer.

how so? I never associated weight with sound quality, I just prefer headphones that weigh more. I dont see how its literally any different than a mouse having weights.

I guess adding weight really isnt a huge issue, but they are doing that to bump  up the price, thats the issue.
