The Witcher 3 has been pre-ordered 1 million times

This is insane for pre orders. I wonder what GTA 5 pre orders were.

Side note: Am I the only one who DOES NOT have a problem with pre ordering? I get why people don't like pre ordering, but when it's a game like Witcher 3, GTA 5, it's worth it IMO.

Let me ask you a question; why is pre-ordering OK for GTA V and Witcher 3, and not for other games?

Trust can be broken very easily, the Skyrim mod paywall being a notable example.

If you have a half decent $15-19 CD/DVD R/W it really shouldn't take all that long for a game to install. I mean are people really that impatient that they cannot even wait 15-20 minutes for a game to install? What is the rush in playing? The game isn't going anywhere. It's not like you are missing out on anything.

 

Maybe it's just me but I don't think wallpapers and soundtracks are worthy of $60, that money IMO, is reserved for the actual quality of the game itself.

 

There are a lot of people such as myself that would probably buy the game anyway, sort of like how people go and see movies regardless of the reviews. I am interested in the story mostly and even if the gameplay was shit I would be willing to suffer through it. So if people are definitely going to buy it anyway, why not let them play it ASAP. Some people like to do that and if you don't that absolutely fine, however you shouldn't be so judgemental.

I fully trust the guys behind Witcher. These guys have always thought of the audience. 

I've read all the Witcher books so far which have been translated to English and I am a huge fan. I only buy the game for the story. I pre-order because I want to.

It was a rhetorical question,  it was point about not giving up just because something seems out of reach of one person.  If we all gave up and accepted what we individually can't change then why bother with anything?  It's only through one person speaking up, then another joining, then another, then that conversation slowly educating people about issues that things start to change.  And it does change, if enough people stop pre ordering then game companies won't waste money marketing a pre order.  If people only buy games that are reviewed independently then game companies will start sending their games to reviewers.  That's the reality of life.  Change does occur, it's just that somethings are so big we have to work at them longer.   Only pessimists give up saying "I won't make a difference".

Aaaand there's the reason why major publishers will continue to release unfinished games; because people will continually pre-purchase games even though they continually get burned.

They are not a major publisher. They took their sweet time with this game and every Witcher they released was running perfectly. I've been pre-ordering their games since they offered it and I was never disappointed. Companies such as Ubisoft need to learn that releasing an unfinished game will kill their profits, Pre-ordering a game that is finished and has minute/little bugs (considering the scale) is very much forgivable.

 

Didn't say CDPR was a big publisher. I was implying that the big publishers will look at Witcher sales (among others) and still think they can do pre-orders on unfinished games.

 

Doesn't matter if CDPR is offering free dlc for the most part.

If you look at a Skyrim or Fallout box it looks exactly the same- boring and repetitive. I assume you played both, are they repetitive? This game is not aimed at console gamers but more towards computers- that was a statement by the CEO not that long ago.

CD Projekt Red is by absolutely no means a huge publisher. If anything they would be considered more "indy".

The only criteria is to not be owned by, or paid to make games by, a third party publisher.

Kinda feel like CDPR earned it. People who have sworn not to pee order have done so on games like GTA V and W3. CDPR has earned a good rep and trust of the people, and that's why they're flying off the shelves before they're even there

I'm super excited for this game, and I want to play it so damn much, but I will not pre-order, not even a CDPR game, and I love CDPR and everything they've done.

I wish other people would do the same and just wait, we cannot hope to show the video games industry that we're fed up of the bullshit if we're continually pre-ordering games. I'm hopeful that CDPR have made an amazing game, the last two were brilliant and I suspect that those who did pre-order will be happy with their purchasing decision, but even so, we shouldn't be buying games before they're released, or at least, until we've seen some high quality reviews letting us know if the game is worth it.

Having said that though, I'm buying the game on release day, I very rarely do that because of issues with games in the past, I haven't even bought GTAV yet and I want to play it really badly, but TW3 is the first game I've been truly excited for since Gran Turismo 4, and even then I wasn't as excited as I am now.

I am looking forward to LoZ for WiiU though, but this game is high on my list of must plays, weak gaming rig be damned

Very true. I just hope for them that it turns out to be a great purchase and not a DLC/micro-transaction ridden monstrosity, like so many other games these days.
