Experiences with non-techies

Isn't a 480 supposed to be about even with a 970?  I think I'd seen people on these boards guessing it'd be around equal to 980 but after they saw benchmarks I think it was said to be more like a 970.  I could be wrong of course.

It isn't but a 970 isn't 1.5 times better :)

So they are pretty much even?  Or one slightly better than the other?

480 is slightly better than decently overclocked 970 with its current drivers and in reference design, that would suggest non reference cards are way better, and that overtime it'll be even better

That'll be interesting to see.  Aside from Nvidia and AMD making more powerful GPUs it's also good to see them make cards that offer better performance for a lower price than was previously available.

Ah my bad. 1GiB = 1024MB. 1MiB = 1024KB. 1KiB = 1024 Bytes.

1GB = 1000MB. 1MB = 1000KB. 1KB = 1000 Bytes.

So basically it's showing more than you actually have.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

oh no not this again :D  the current state of storage space terminology is a complete disaster.

Basically the "xiB" ones are the 1024 byte ones, and the "xB" ones are the 1000 byte ones.  However, Windows uses the 1024 system and labels them as "xB" just to mess with everyone.  Then there's RAM sizes... *cries*

So 1 GiB = 1024 MiB = 10242 KiB = 10243 Bytes, which, if we want to convert, = 1.074 GB = 1074 MB, etc

or

1 GB = 1000 MB = 10002 kB = 10003 Bytes = 0.931 GiB = 954 MiB = 976562.5 KiB

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I uploaded this to Facebook once, now try to imagine explaining how much space this is to my mom. I ended up saying first that its more then you will have on your laptop in a lifetime. Didn't work. so I went ahead and explained that this is a billion gigabytes, didn't work... In the end I ended up going back to when she got her first MP3 player and how many songs she could fit if she had this much space. In the end it became alot of numbers... I still have a headache thinking back. And my mom has forgotten everything, so all was in vain.

And no, I didn't actually encounter this much space, I'm fairly sure it was nothing but a bug. And for those that don't know, EB stands for exabyte, which is a 1000 petabytes, or a million terabyte or as mentioned earlier a billion gigabytes and so on. and I'm not gonna go into the details EIB or just EB.

I once explained to my girlfriend what true love is. I said, "If you were a shit, I'd put you back in" and to this day, she is still my little shit.

Just saw a guy saying a 970 is 1.5x faster than an rx 480, why? Because one benchmark at the 6th page in google search said so... being a fanboy at that point, you don't deserve toi be considered as a tech guy ^^

Wait now..., think about it. The gtx 970 is over twice as fast as a rx480. Y?

Because 480 by 2 (960) is less than 970.

And you know how o can compare them? They both have a prefix ending in x

That makes absolutely no sense. And if you're trying to be funny, congratulations, you found a new way to not be funny.

So a few months back, my Dad and I went to our local PCWorld since he wanted to get a new mouse for his work laptop. After looking around for a few minutes we came down to two that he was choosing between, one wired mouse and one wireless mouse. I told him to consider the wired one since it was cheaper and it felt much better in my hand (our hands are pretty much the same size)

His counterargument was "Yeah, but if I use the wired one it'll take up a USB port".

I stood there looking at him for about 10-15 seconds with probably the most dumbfounded face I've ever pulled

honestly, it's not that he doesn't know how to "use" emails, it's the irony that he was able to take a screenshot, crop it, upload it on a forum and then ask how to send a picture, I swear, it's really the irony of the whole situation! :)
