Experiences with non-techies

Some kid today was trying to change the CMOS clock through the "Remove Programs" section of the Control Panel and I told him that you had to change it in the BIOS. He was like "I know how to get into the BIOS" and then when I challenged him to do it he left.

qq Why would the BIOs be accessible through Windows? It'd be so hard to reinstall Windows. :P

You wont believe it but I went to some modelling convention and taking pictures with my 600d... Some guy next to me asked me if I could turn off the shutter sound because it was annoying... Its a dslr - cant turn anything off there, it has silent shutter through magic lantern but I prefer the normal thingy...

Aero affects performance slightly.

There are benchmarks on this.:

http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2244924

So.

I use windows classic.

I don't think that a benchmark with one game with one GPU is enough to justify that statement. Do you disable Windows services too? Do you not take Windows Updates?

No wonder why I got 40 frames on Minecraft on my moms pc (before I had my own) then when she had aero installed I had a fun time at 6 frames. You know that your moms PC is an intel atom netbook or a crappy PC that his dads friend made for the family. So when someone installs Aero, your kind of screwed.

I thought I had some money... Oh wait... I spent it all ;(

I sold a customer of mine a GeForce GTX 960, which I assured him would be a huge upgrade versus his GeForce GTX 660. He came back the next day and, having already returned it, confronted me with great hostility and told me the GeForce GTX 960 had been a 70% downgrade compared to his GeForce GTX 660 and claimed that I did not know what I was talking about.

I assume he didn't do the driver installation properly...

This thing is shit, I want a refund.

He probably thought the 660ti drivers would work... Or that he could install them over eachother.

What if he just scanned a picture of the 960 and just put it on his hard drive? *Obvious reference is obvious*

We didn't get that far. His hostility was so great that I was left no choice but to walk away.

When someone at school is trying to explain how RAM is the most important thing while PC gaming.

Just tell them to go to downloadmoreram.com to get their RAM for free...

Obviously I am being sarcastic.

People by HP and Dell because when they make a proper gaming PC, they do not know what a driver is so the resultion is basically f*cked.

Yes however as long as your mac was made after 2010 it probably has little to no moving parts.

I had a client bring in his computer complaining of bluescreens on anything other than idling at his desktop. Ran a couple of basic tests and deleted the common crap off of disks that cause slowdowns before opening the case to find this:

Keep in mind, this is a system I built for him early 2014 with a 770SC/i5-4670 and 840Pro, so its not even that old.

I just... :(

Gaming PCs with lots of fans need to be cleaned every few months at the very least. Gotta drill that in.

The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn't understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had.

No, allot of them have fusion drives, which are still considered hard drives.  Just modified.

But fusion drives have the same chance of failure I would think.

Just noticed this but most of the people at my university use VGA over HDMI even if HDMI is available...

Main reason: lack of available cables (I would invest on my own but I can't find a shorter HDMI cable)
