Idahoan painters use sprayers. Ohio uses rollers and brushes.

I haven’t really used sprayers myself. I’ve only seen them used for car repainting or detailing here.

Having done both, rolling is faster, less wasteful, and looks better. But like much of Idaho's construction industry, the hourly guys want to drag the job out, they suck ass at rolling so that also usually looks relatively shitty, and the guys running the numbers charge more at the end of the day, and use the additional material cost as justification (more material = more time to put it up).
