Are you using Sprint or T-Mobile? I heard those suck at coverage. 

 

T-Mo coverage is good in LA back in 2014 though.

Is it weird that I just built a spread sheet to calculate what unemployment insurance would pay me plus cash reserves against a reduced running budget to project 'survival time' in months if I'm ever unemployed?

Ya, I hate most of Verizon's current plans, that is why I was sad when I lost the old unlimited plan that I had gotten grandfathered into.

We had their older Verizon XL which was a 12GB shared plan for two phones. Most of the time it worked out, other times it wouldn't and it would cost us. Finally decided to get the Go Unlimited although there's some stupid things that they do to differentiate go unlimited and beyond unlimited. Largely the mobile hotspot speed cap.
