Look at some ship showcases on the official RSI channel, the detail is nuts.

Yea i saw that. Thats why i expected a super UHD environment too. Fair enough :) Now it makes sense.

anyone can confirm an i5 does not work with this? Mines at 100%.. :/

My guess is you need an extreme edition to properly enjoy it.

edit: 1440p60 works fine for me though. so I think I can be happy with that

I just watched the video at 4K60p and not stuttering for me. On my i5 4690k@4.5GHz, my utilization was around 80%. Didn't get any stuttering what so ever. I even went into the Nvidia control panel to supersample my monitor to 3840x2160 and still no issues.

@bcredeur97 my i5 was fine.

I have a 4.4Ghz 2500K and GTX 480.

I'm thinking it has less to do with the CPU and more with the GPU, although I could be wrong.

If I'm right then older GPUs like @bcredeur97 's HD 6950 and my GTX 480 can't handle the video decoding.

I think this because my 2500K sits at 90-100% and my 480 fluctuates between 0-40% usage while trying to play 4K60fps and dropping many many frames.

opb9Dh8.png

While at 1440P60fps the 480 stays at a constant 50% usage with the CPU at 50-60%

kYt1OP8.png

So it's possible that something is keeping the GPU from properly accelerating video playback in older generations.

It's also possible that the CPU is maxing out before the GPU can actually do something, in other words bottlenecking.....though this seems less likely.

@Alexp10v2 what does your gpu usage look like during 4K60fps video playback?

Having a 40" 4K monitor here, I was excited to check it out. Alas, Chrome is not GPU accelerated at all. I really do hate the absolute mess that is the web. It's 2015, and we're still fighting over web standards to be implemented in years to come. In the past 6 years, we've seen the rise of IOS & Android, and the web still hasn't caught up. It's just sad.

That's no moon, that's a death ball !

@mvitkun

I know I'm double quoting/posting, don't know if I edit my previous post if it will send you a new notification.

Screenshots show my monitor is running at 4k, along with the video, along with task manager, msi afterburner, cpu-z and gpu-z

Warning: Large resolution pictures in the spoilers

Pre-video @4k

G11oFsU.jpg

GPU Usage was at about 3% since the video had just started, CPU was at 5% and memory usage was at just under 5GB

During video

kaSsckW.jpg

GPU Usage was at 20%, CPU was at anywhere from 70 - 90%, most of the time it was at 80-ish, and RAM usage went up to 4.77GB

Edit: For some reason the second image is not hidden by a spoiler, don't know why.

@mvitkun I think your right. and maybe that explains The Radeon 6xxx series having weird problems with video sometimes from other sources as well, the decoding just isnt as good as the newer architecture GPU's.

although right now 4k 60fps is stuttering so much (it's not the connection, it was loading fast) we may notice the difference from that alone ^^ and if my i7 stutters I fear most people will have the same problem...

Ran fine at 4k/60fps for me but i think its super 2005 to not have hardware acceleration, especially at these kind of resolutions.

VP9 is supposed to be the future, but without hardware acceleration its more like three steps backwards.

During my testing of 4k60 playback (6300 @ 4Ghz &R9290... major stuttering, 100% all 6 cores and barely any GPU in chrome (Firefox won't show >720p) get ~30-50% @ 1440p & some% GPU) bandwidth wasn't an issue, pulling down 90-100Mbs on initial starts (like video start and skipping). My CPU/GPU/Driver config on the other hand, that made it horrible, but it's fine when downloading the torrent. Damn codecs.

On a side note slightly, it's interesting looking at the download speeds of the folks grabbing the torrent (I've been seeding it since creation).

Most of the folks I'm uploading to @ ~10-50KiB/s (generally in countries of 'iffy' internet (India, Turkey, Argentina) with the occasional 1337 nabbing >12Mbs (I top out ~13Mbs).

Would be nice if LTT put their content on torrent. It's going to happen anyway but will allow easier access to quality video for those without the ability to stream in decent quality.
