I only included "Rumor" in title because I thought AMD was closer to releasing Fiji XT around June, and Chip Hell's most accurate leaks are usually a couple weeks to a month out before release. So because of that fact, I stuck rumor in there so nobody gets their panties in a bunch. As far as it looks though, Fiji XT is right up there with the Titan X (but with only 4GB of VRAM, ouch). Which makes sense as to why NVIDIA is trying to push the Titan X out now while they can. Because although I don't believe the next AMD flagship card to be as cheap as their previous flagship cards (because of HBM, and possible watercooling), I still believe it will be cheaper than a Titan X. What really strikes my interest is the cut down GM200 (possibly 1080 or 980 Ti) that is looking sweet. Near Titan X performance, 6GB of VRAM, without the hefty price tag. I imagine cheaper than the 390x as well. But who knows what the 390 will bring then. I also think I see a 960 Ti or 965 way down there too (3GB VRAM).

If the Titan X can run 146 FPS on average at 4k--it can cost whatever it wants, that'd be great.  Same for Fiji XT.  *_*  As long as I can get an Acer xr341ck with g-sync -or- freesync.  Just take my money.

if fiji xt is 4096 cores of the same architecture as 290x 2816 cores then that would lead to a 45.4% bump on speed.
titan x meanwhile is a 50% bump over 980 so they should be trading blows.....which this kinda shows.

also 45% more cores on a 20nm process would lead to those sort of power consumption.
this doesnt take into account but overclocking of course as noone knows how much more can be gotten out of it.
if maxwell can boost to 1500ish(normally 1400ish) and fiji can get to 1200(normally 1100) like they currently can itll still be close.

extrapolating from the power numbers it also means a 2560 core 290 remake would be around 180w power consumption and around if not cheaper than gtx960 pricing.
so 150w tdp? 180w power consumption, 290 performance in the r9-270 replacement.

I wonder when Nvidia fanboys will start caring about raw performance and not this BS power efficiency argument? Electricity is dirt cheap almost everywhere, so unless you live in BFE, it is a non-argument. I want the best performance regardless of power, and apparently you do too with 4 980s. :-?

Not necessarily.  Some of us still like a quiet system, so cranking the GPU up to max forcing the fans to work harder and louder isn't ideal.  Granted if the 390x comes with something like a Sapphire Tri-X or the ASUS Direct CU II, and they still stay quiet while overclocking, then that's what I'll get.

How interesting would it be if the Titan X being branded as a gaming card--is actually just that for all intents and purpose. Maxwell lacks double precision--they'll sell it at $600 to replace the 980 and -slowly- get top end cards back to that $600 - $800 asking price.    Be interesting if that is the route they take Titans down.  Likely won't happen.

well i feel power consumption is subjective..just like noise..it all depends on what you can tolerate..

i remember linus saying: "it's like, just use a headphone if gpu is too noisy for you".. noise is more irritating when compared to power consumption..

when it comes to stench, just plug your nose to not smell it..but still smelly

 

on topic: never saw coming that gm200 cut..like i'd have a budget for the high end cards.lol

So much for HBM being AMD's saving grace. I always said games were not bandwidth-limited. Only scientific computing workloads will benefit for the foreseeable future.

It certainly is,  The biggest thing I can't stand on these forums is people telling other people they are wrong because they have their own version of what's acceptable.  To someone in Sweden the difference might be $10 a year, to someone in Australia it can be more than the difference in cost of the card versus a lower power consuming card.  Everyone has their preferences and they are legitimate to each.

 

As far as noise goes, I hate it, I have a noisy machine and it drives me nuts,  I used to have a passively cooled GPU because my rig was in a recording studio, you certainly hear the difference when going from passive to a fermi

FOR THE LAST TIME 980 ti DOESN'T exist. Gm204 is fully enabled on the 980 thus no 980ti. Next card will be next generation. Then we might see a ti on that card if it isn't fully enabled.
