Our Grace. The Feathered One. He shows us the way. His bob is majestic and shows us the path. Follow unto his guidance and His example. He knows the one true path. Our Saviour. Our Grace. Our Father Birb has taught us with His humble heart and gentle wing the way of the bob. Let us show Him our reverence and follow in His example. I have a Xeon E3 1231v3. It's spectacular for gaming or for watching 4 different youporns at once and then clicking maximize when one of the vids gets to a good part. No seriously, one time I was running Prime95 and forgot to close it, and didn't even notice it was going balls out on Prime while web browsing for a couple of hours. It's advertised as a 3.4GHz CPU but I have never seen it run below 3.6GHz on any kind of load. Even on 3 hours of Prime95 it never fell back to 3.4GHz.

Warning, grammar Nazi's inbound.

And although I don't use one personally I do actually know a good few people who rock a Xenon.

From what I understand xeons are more pruductivity oriented cpus, right? So for gaming and i7 would be better?

Longboarders/ skaters message me!

they can still be plopped into a regular desktop board of the same socket if the motherboard supports it. they are better binned and consume less power, cannot be overclocked at all, and some of the xeon instructions can't be utilized by a regular desktop chipset. They're also meant to normally run 24/7 stable, so they will run as long as they're useful. The E3-1230 and better have hyper-threading so its like an i7 non-k with a few less turbo steps.

with a cheap intel board xeons are a smart choice for gaming right now, and will destroy an 8350.

They are less mainstream because product name isn't as clear and they don't feature integrated graphics (at least not on most models), and have more business oriented features especially for servers. However the architecture of a Xeon and an i5 or i7 (depending on the model) isn't any different so they perform just fine on the desktop for mainstream use and are often cheaper. You can get an i7-like Xeon (locked of course) for around $250; just slightly more than an i5.

Intel i5-4690K @ 3.8GHz || Gigabyte Z97X-SLI || 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws X 1600MHz || Asus GTX 760 2GB @ 1150 / 6400 || 128GB A-Data SX900 + 1TB Toshiba 7200RPM || Corsair RM650 || Fractal 3500W

Damn, I had no idea they were so popular, or even that viable for that matter.

Glad this is coming to light :0
