Small update. Added another quick disconnect at the pump outlet and temp sensors (one after the pump and one after the CPU)

My Streacom BC1 test bench with the 4790k & GTX980. I didn't have the original gpu cooler so this was the only option. 😄

IMG_0343.thumb.JPG.edcd5983c66bf92485a9f26f68f35335.JPG

Edit: Version 2.

Turned out the above setup wasn't cool enough for both the gpu & cpu. So for ease I went with one part water cooled and one part air cooled. This way I can change the mobo yet keep the gpu.

Here is my new build completed: I ended up adding a separate, external cooling loop which runs through the wall and sits in the next room over, reason for this was my computer room was just getting way too hot compared to the rest of the house.

Specs:

5900x

EVGA 3080 XC3

32GB Corsair DDR4 RGB

Asus TUF B550 MATX

Cooling

2x Black Ice GTS 240 (internal)

2x Noctua NF-A12x15 / 2x A12x25

Phanteks Glacier R160

EK Velocity CPU Block

EK FC 3080

The external loop has: D5, 2x 360 rad, 1x 240 rad and is on quick disconnects so I can easily remove it and still run the system without it. With everything installed its a totally stealthy setup and you can't even see the tubes coming out of the PC. Ended up working better than I thought. 10c drop in the room temperature and over 20c drop in PC temps. Idle water temp is around 26-28c and load water temp maxes out at 32-33c.

@iCrap - any chance you could detail the external box? Was it a hard/difficult project to get sorted? What custom parts did you have to build/use? I'm thinking of doing one myself since I hate the airflow for dual 360 in most cases and don't wanna endup doing another O11 build, currently using a Meshify S2 but thinking of going small case + external cooling :)

Yeah, sure. I made it from 2020 Aluminum Extrusion rails and it's sized to fit 4 360s total, all with intake facing in and a large top exhaust to get the heat out the top. The brackets are all 3D printed for the rads and stuff. You'll see a fan controller in the pics but i ended up not using it, i crimped a wire harness that you can see in one of the pics which connects back into the PC and powers all the fans and controls them based off the water temp inside the rad box.

I just used the rads I had sitting here already, but if i need to now it's sized for more. After using this though, I can tell you its already massive overkill the way it is. Water temp almost NEVER goes over 30c. (only after hours of stress tests). I don't have to even run any of the fans higher than like 40% either.

How is the QDCs plumbed into the main system? can you run the loop with the QDCs loose or do you have to seal the ends with a short run to complete the run? I'm gussing at the moment you have males on one end and females on the other end, and so if you have male and female on each end, you could seal them up without the need for the orange run.

Oh, no that orange run was just used to bleed the external system on it's own at first while filling it. It's not needed anymore.

The QDCs from the PC run to the secondary in/out ports on the phanteks reserviour, so if nothing is connected to them the system still functions standalone. Don't need to loop them at all to use the system by itself. Just unplug it and the interal system still works fine

You can see in this pic the orange run is not connected anymore, since its full and bled:

I see, so basically your external system operates by mixing in cold(er) water into the PC system's reservoir. I guess that works too!

Yeah, essentially. That way I can still unplug it easily. And it seems to all mix in fairly well. The temp difference is usually about 2-3c between the temp sensor in the GPU block port, and the temp sensor in the external system's reservoir.

First hard line build inside a mini itx PC, pretty happy with the results! This is not the final form, but the lack of availability for a GPU makes it very hard to complete. Case is very spacious for a mini itx case, and I loved every bits of it. Phanteks did a fantastic job building this case (it's a MetallicGear Neo Mini V2)!
