Hello there everyone, I'm sure there's quite a few of you who recognize me, been around for a little while now. With the holidays around the corner I thought I'd share with you my journey which hopefully would serve as inspiration for some of you out there, and present an opportunity to think about your goals for the future.

Each year I would make different resolutions to accomplish various goals, which I (and most others) never really follow through on. Which got me thinking last year, why do all of these plans and goals fail? Not just for me but others too? Then it dawned on me, it's not the goals that were the problem, it was their execution.

I was in very good shape in my early years of highschool and it slowly began to deteriorate the older I got.  School, sports, other commitments all seemed to pile up, and on top of that, depression weighed me down to an extreme degree. While I never reached a point of attempted suicide or quitting school, I know many people that would have in my situation.

It was one year ago today that I knew I needed to make a change or it would just become more difficult as time went on. This realization coincided with the revelation of goal setting and accomplishment. I made the decision that I was going to change my life for the better, not just for myself but for my family and friends who cared about me.

I decided I was going to get back in shape, improve my performance at school, keep commitments I've made, and most importantly, rid my life of self loathe, depression, and hate. This left me with the question of, how can accomplish such daunting tasks all simultaneously?

I found the answer from the man whom I admire most, my father. I had reached what could be viewed at as the lowest point in my life when I set these goals and couldn't find a way to accomplish them. I tried and tried to figure it out but I couldn't so I came to him, my parent, a last resort. (side note: I'm a very prideful individual so this made it hard for me to do) I broke down in front of him and he gave me a hug. I ended up telling him my goals and said how on earth could I accomplish so much? & From his lips came the words that would change my life and continue to, to this day.

"One day at a time."

Something so simple, I laughed, hysterically, it made me feel beyond stupid, I had ignored the answer staring down my face for the longest time. Maybe it was because I hoped there was another way, a faster way, where I could skip the struggle and overcome it all in an instant, but honestly I'm not sure.

I decided on a couple of things that day. I would analyze each goal and look at way the major problems were preventing me from accomplishing them, and take them one step at a time.

Weight Loss: I decided I wouldn't cut food out of my diet, or change what I ate, I would simply cut back on proportions, little by little.

School: I realized my attendance was what was hurting me, so I decided, I would just do my homework the night I got it, and make it to class every day. No matter what.

Family: I would talk to them nicer, tell them I loved them, and spend more time with them when it was available, but also learn to say no when I had other things to focus on.

Friends: I would cut off the people I knew who were toxic in my life and show appreciation for the ones who stuck around.

and lastly, my most difficult goal, ridding self loathe and depression

Depression: I would no longer take the medication, I would accept who I am, and recognize I'm taking steps to change it, and it won't happen instantly.

This semester, I've earned a 3.75GPA in college.

I went from 281lbs to 252lbs.

I've ran an anime club with tons of help from amazing members of the community who understood my absences when needed.

@MyInnerFred @Charger @Vitalius @TheProfosist @CatCloud

I was blessed with an amazing girlfriend who's loving, caring, and trusting.

My family enjoys spending time with me and being around me.

I've become goal oriented, organized, and task driven.

I accomplished all of these things, in one year. Just from these two simple, ideas.

Accept who you are

&

Take it all, one day at a time.

The battle for me is not nearly over.

I still lapse into days where I feel depressed,

I still binge on junkfood and netflix,

I still skip a class occasionally,

I still argue with my parents,

I still skip gym day,

I still forget to update the forum thread,

And that's what brings me to my new years resolution, do a little better, be a little better then the day before, than the year before.

When the balls drops, and the near year rolls around, ask yourself what you can do to be a better man or woman next year.

@Luclocke

You don't need a new year to start changing things... You are stronger than that.

First of all, just quit the gym and just start walking (The gym is for bodybuilders and actually for the advanced ones. The gym will only make you sad). Seriously, WALK OUTSIDE. It's incredible how healthy, physicaly and mentaly, walking in the nature is. You'll lose easily some pounds and you will be happier. Actually you will be something more than happy; you will feel ALIVE.

Every morning just walk for 45/60 mins with empty stomach. Do it every single day and this can change a part of your life.

-"Ok smart guy, why walking will change my life?"
-Well, it's not only that you are going to lose weight, but most importantly you will activate your body. Walking in the nature will make you feel less depresed and i believe that could help you a TON overall. Just losing some weight will make you feel a lot better, we both know it.

-"But i don't like walking"
-Ok, do something different, like riding a bike or do yoga. Just keep moving and be outside to the nature.

-"Why are you telling me all these?"
-I am just trying to help, because just like i said earlier, you are stronger than what you believe. You don't need the "new years resolutions", you just need to believe in yourself.

- snip -

The Depression problem you have is not that severe . You can get over it , I face depression a lot as well ... Feeling like I don't have anything special or that I'm useless , that nobody want me in this world . But then I started to look the world in a another way , I find happiness in simple and little things ( ex : kids playing happily on the street , my parents laughing , my best friend laughing - which I have one - ) . And I learn to except my weakness and get through them ( The one problem for me is Math so I find the best of my class to fill up the gap I was missing ) . This  will take time , sure , but when you do it again and again and again everyday . Eventually , the grayish lense of your eyes will be replace by the wonderful colours of life . And when you do that , just except that you are born in life to do something great , that you have a part in this world for some reason , find that reason , find your desire to contribute to an all changing world . When you look up and you see successful people all around you , don't be depress , be desirable ( But not over desire , that will make you blindly greedy ) . Achieve small yet precious little things that make you happy . And remember this : " You are a part of a moving world , there's no point of suicide when you can witness the world changing around you , creatures blooming with life . If the creatures want to survive , why can't you survive to watch them grow ? "

P/S : Thats is what I thought of life , a little phylosophy can take you a long way .

P/SS : Love that Luffy avatar though (^_^)

... Life is a game and the checkpoints are your birthday , you will face challenges where you may not get rewarded afterwords but those are the challenges that help you improve yourself . Always live for tomorrow because you may never know when your game will be over ... I'm totally not going insane in anyway , shape or form ... I just have broken English and an open mind ...
